IMHO - the best overall upgrade for a Sub 1 is to slap a Silhouette Special loaded original pickguard on it. The old Silo interchangeability trick. ;)

Locking tuners would be something to consider too.

~Jim

The trem equipped ones have locking tuners (use a big screw driver). Not Spertzels but they do the job.

Mine is a hard tail, however I find locking tuners a bit of an unnecessary purchase for my Sub1 as its all down to how it is strung. Once I string my sub and strech the strings in properly it never gives me any tuning hassle.

Cant wait to get a new pickguard for it though, I have had a Morse neck pup (thanks Keith) for the sub here for months and I aint done anything with it yet!!

Cheers Sticky I'm gonna go with a glowgaurd, but appreciate the offer.
you coming to London in June?

Not a problem, fella :)

I have been swaying on the London bash. Not quite sure yet.

I suspect it could be a belter. Hmmm, got me thinkin now......

What is the pickguard?
I'm lookin for one for my sub too.

It's a minimal wee thing, a two pot single HB pick guard:

OK

So I took the sub apart to get me a template....

Here we go...... just like Tony Hart RIP

Oh and by the way - nice surprise when I took the pickguard off - it's routed for 2!!

Excuse the chrome pickup cover - it's not going to work, due to the round route for the pickups,

So I can decide, I can have a glowguard in metal -like below

or a mirror blue with no tricks/electrics....
like so .....

Your thoughts and opinions welcome - whatever gets the most votes I'll got wit (probably!!!!)

I'm really surprised you didn't know this already... .........

And my vote is for the blue mirror. Non glowing thank you.

Jack, I was talking about locking tuners for a hardtail Sub1, although I was clear-as-mud, wasn't I. I do have a trem Sub1 in my EBMM portfolio btw. I'm still to this day a little puzzled over the height of the tuner posts on the Sub1 lockers. Was this for extra mass, if so, success! I use a small pocket screwdriver on mine. A coin would do in a pinch. I hope no-one gets too carried away with a big standard screwdriver on their locking tuners. A #1 stubby would work nicely.

I was thinking of the standard EBMM Schaller lockers. Like on an Al. And I wasn't necessarily mentioning them in regards to only tuning stability. What I like them for is the ease of stringing and being able to take the strings off the tuners quickly to do some work on the guard components, and then put the same set of strings back on. This is a major plus when doing mods.

Sticky that white pearl guard looks great. Nice chrome knobs too. And you want to replace it?

A legend. RIP the great man.

I vote for blue mirror; sounds great.

I may end up regretting the change, but I have been promising myself major changes for some time. I intend to start a thread with a project log once I am sure I can keep it up to date.

Smelly, I think the Blue Mirror will look great man. You gonna change it from 1H to 2H?

You could always tweak the old PG with a second H and swap them out then you feel like a change man!

Cheers Fellas,

Spud - one of the maids dresses me in the morning (watch Eddie Murphy in coming to America ;))

Some outside shots, no gold hardware, but now you've got me thinking, - I'm about to start another thread that will explain my madness a little more....

Enjoy - -
BTW - new set of slinky's on this - and man it plays like silk, better get some mileage on it before June!
