Hello!

I'm very new here.. Just bought a sub silo 3 guitar that I'm perfectly happy with.. The thing is that I want to change the tuning machines (2pin configuration - smaller that usual fender ones) but I can't find anything in the market.

Perhaps the original F series from schaller would do, but yet again I couldn't find any relevant drawing to be sure..

Many thanks for any input!!!

Cheers,
Stefanos

I've sent an email to the support of sterling. I got a very prompt reply (from someone named Brian) that I should ask here for that... :)

Welcome to the forum, Stefanos!

What about using the Schaller M6-IND locking tuners? You may have to drill new screw holes, but it would be a very good upgrade. The locking tuners make string changes fast and easy and they stay in tune quite well.

Hello Tollie!

Crossed my mind, because I can find them also in both left and right versions.. Drilling is something that I would want to avoid in principle.. But I'm afraid I'll have to face it..

I'm wondering what tuning machines were used for the SUB1 music man guitar.. I suppose the same?

Ed, you're killing me! LOL! :)
I sent Stefanos here since there are so many users who have aftermarket modification information on the forum, and I don't have any parts numbers and such for aftermarket parts.

Welcome to the Forum Stefanos! I'm glad that you took my suggestion to come here for the info.

Give it just a little bit and I'm sure some others will chime in with information to head you in the right direction.

There are other options for 4x2 tuners out there besides Schaller, here is a place that also offers 4x2.

http://www.sporthitech.com/brands/Hipshot.html

Most all options will require drilling some new mount holes.

The tuners that you have are Asian style twin post and as you noticed the pins are closer to the center than the F****r Ping Works tuners. I hope that is what you meant by "smaller". I have no idea where Sterling is sourcing them but highly likely would be a Korean supplier. These "closer" two pin tuners came on Korean strats and probably some other brands from Korea or Asia. They also came on Music Man Sub 1 guitars.

Warmoth used to have the Schaller mini-locking for $8.50 per tuner, but those days are long gone. Now a set of 6 will run you $78 plus shipping from them. I have no idea what EBMM sells them for.

For your info , the Hipsots are every bit as good as the Schallers and maybe even better.
