Sub1 standard mods?

Are there any standard type mods for sub1's that people have been getting a lot of benefits from? I've owned mine for a couple of years and it'll probably be joined by a silo this Christmas (once I let the wife know she bought me one). I love it... been my main gig guitar since I've owned it. I had a DiMarzio Air Zone laying around that made it's way into the bridge, but other than that it's stock. Don't want to do anything that isn't reversible..... If anyone has modded theirs, how close do they get to the standard MM offerings? TIA...

This guitar gets misinterpreted as a lower end guitar; it isn't. All of the quality and care is in it, it just isn't pretty the way the other ones are, and it has a finished neck. Comparing my Sub and Silo is like comparing apples and oranges, and I love them both and play them both all the time. Keep in mind also, that the Morse is a poplar body, so it isn't a lesser wood either.

They will both be awesome, enjoy them!

Wasn't trying to knock the Sub1s... like I said, I love mine. I was just curious if there was something small that folks had done that had made a difference.... like changing a cap value or pot. EBMM's done such a good job on these that there's no low hanging fruit.

BTW... the finish was a selling point for me. Had another US guitar with a nice etched top with a beach scene. Could barely change the strings on it without scratching it up... made me completely paranoid about gigging with it.

Hmmm, I've been thinking about installing a DiMarzio DP207 (Petrucci) humbucker...from what I gather, if turned correctly, it still doesn't sound too distorted or boomy when played clean but provides serious thunder on overdriven channels. Plus there's the option of splitting coils (I'd install a push-pull pot), so you get a strat-like tone plus the heavy humbucker modern guitar-type of thing (that's the one thing I lack in my humble collection of guitar sounds). BTW (sorry for repeating the question from a thread of mine) - does anyone know if I need an F-spaced (I think so...) or a regular DP207 for my HH Trem (black with silver pickguard - she's a beauty, I think, simple yet striking)?

Oh, and BTW, I love the feel of the guitar, the best I've ever played (not that I've played tons, mind you) and the sound is more than fine as it is, I just feel like exploring something I haven't got yet.

I have a sub HH hardtail that has been my #1 guitar for the last 6 months or so...and the only mods I've done have been continually tweaking the setup, basically. I installed 1 graphtech saddle on the low E....then found out they were too big (American standard strat size, I think)...have to get 6 smaller ones (import strat size, I think...) I have a pair of seymour duncans that I've been meaning to put in....but this guitar is my main gigging guitar, so I haven't gotten around to it.

On the mod wishlist: the new pickups, locking tuners, and a new nut...fret level and crown.

but the thing is: It just delivers....just so comfortable, fun to play, light, stays in tune like nobody's business, and is so versatile....GREAT guitar....great bang for the buck. I never get around to modding it, I mean to, but it more than does the job stock.

I've just recently settled on the fact that Music Mans are the guitars for me, period.

I've been thinking about contouring the body to be more comfortable, but I have been too much of a wimp to actually go through with it. I know I will never be able to match the paint so it is hard to actually do it. I love the sound and the feel of the neck, but I can't seem to get used to the edge of the body rubbing against my right forearm.

Hi, Ivan, I know you're from CRO, I also checked out your site and playing...I'm very very impressed indeed, I'm ten years your senior and wish I could play a tenth as well as you do (...well, the important thing is to enjoy it...). Hope you find success with your talent. Anyway, since you own a JP with the exact same DP207 pickup I'm considering, what is it like with standard tunings...how does it sound split...how about when played clean? Although, as I said, what I really need is heavy tone (like for instance our Slovenian band Siddharta - do you know it by the way?!).

Anyway, stay cool and if you're ever in Ljubljana, PM me and we could have a beer in our smokeless (form AUG 5 - yikes!) bars.

First of all, thanks!
I have a JP that is pre D-Sonic. So, I don't have DP207 and can't really answer these questions, but I do believe that you won't have any problems with heavy sounds (btw. I know of Siddharta, I've heard about the band 1000 times, but I don't actually know any of their songs).

I'll be in Ljubljana in September or October, recording the drums for my upcoming solo album, so I'll PM you.
BTW, are there any stores that hold Music Man bass guitars in Ljubljana? (or anywhere in Slovenia, I know only about Bobencek in Novo Mesto, PM me)
My bass player is considering buying a Sting Ray 5, but MM guitars are really overpriced in Croatia. I'm not saying the price is more than they're actually worth. The price is just bigger than anywhere else.

As far as I know, Bobenček is the only official EBMM dealer in SLO, but there are others who also have them, like for instance Čurin ( What I suggest you do is use the Slovenian browser Najdi.si and search for the bass there... Then there is this: BAS KITARA MUSIC MAN and of course our best uncle from Germany - Thomann.

A propos: do check out Siddharta (MySpace or YouTube)- you might like it - it's heavy and melodic (very well played and produced, though not virtuoso stuff). BTW: where in Ljubljana are you recording drums? If that doesn't work out, there is a wonderful studio near the SLO coast which has pro vintage equipment + pro tools and is great for drums and NOT EXPENSIVE - 300 euros per day WITH accommodation: Studio JORK // Pro Audio Studio // Europe - Slovenia // Residential Studio
