So.......I've got a B00 StingRay - with a kerfluggita neck (that's a technical term for a neck that is no longer functional). This bass has seen a LOT of miles. The trussrod broke two years ago and I finally found a luthier willing to dig out the skunkstripe and replace the trussrod. He did a fine job - but now, the trussrod wants to break through the fretboard (maple) when I try to adjust it to the point of being playable. I glued and clamped the crack - but that didn't solve the underlying problem. It's impossible to find another pre-EB 3 bolt (i've been on the lookout for a year and a half) or even a 4 bolt neck to just swap out. I'm not interested in a Moses. Anyone have any suggestions?

in your case id suggest looking for a frankenbass on ebay. there have been a few of those lately including one with a p-bass pickup and non original bridge.
those usually go for a lot less than a complete bass...

Thanks. I saw that listing but was too slow. Apparently someone else had the same idea - the lister ended up selling the neck seperately and re-listing the body and pickup. Ah well. Patience.

Yeah, waiting is all you can do.
Last year I tried helping a buddy find a replacement neck for his 79 that was warped slightly. I found a candidate, got it here only to find a chunk of the headstock was broken off at some point in it's life, and repaired. It was sturdy, but we didn't want a headstock with a big unsightly crack line across it.
Anyway, old necks seem harder and harder to find as every year goes by.

Status replacment

I understand you do not want a Moses, but is it because it is graphite?

Moses is not for me either, however Status does make a direct replacement.

Status Graphite. replacement necks.

They are licensed and the headstock is still the same shape.
You might want to look into them...You won't have any more issues after that.
(The status sound is similar to maple...Just for a FYI)

+1 to this.

I just put a Status neck on my Sabre as i did not want to pay £600/$900 for an old battered Sabre neck, which seems to be the going rate if you can even find one. I am not a modding fanatic, but it is the Best thing i have ever done.(Basswise!)
