I'm slowly discovering that the JP6 tones aren't for me more and more each day.

Somehow i've sort of outgrown the AN/Steve's Special thingie. I'm looking for something more open and low output in the neck, and something with a bigger mid hump in the bridge. I'm thinking this make an even better chugga chugga guitar than it already is. I somehow find the Steve's Special to be a bit too conservative sounding.

For the neck, i'm half tempted to go PAF. and I mean really PAF. No dimarzio-like, but boutique-like. But i'm not sure how it'll work out on the JP6. It seems to be nicer on the 20th though. I've tried a PAF Joe in there, but somehow it didn't work as well as I liked. More to do with the 24 fret thingie though.

I really don't want to contemplate selling the guitar because i like the feel and vibe very much. Plus, we share the same birthday!

Whaddya guys suggest?

P.S. Short of going the Michael Romeo way of tonezone neck X2N bridge, I'm extremely tempted to throw a pair of Deactivators in there actually.

My suggestion - keep the original pickup in case you decide to sell the guitar later on!

I'm looking for a smoother, slightly more compressed and fatter neck sound, a la 20th Silo style. Other than that I am torn between the JP6 and the Gold Roller, it's really a tough call! I love the sound of the 20th, but the lightweight GR is a huge plus, and the trem on the JP is almost like a nail in the coffin. If I could find a lightweight 20th Silo w/ trem........

Hahaha... nice one pete. I'm not selling that for sure, and i'm definately keeping the stock neck pickup. Mine came with a D Sonic, which I still have, but I replaced it with a Steve's Special.

Have you considered Lollar Imperial Humbuckers for that nice 20th PAF-like sound? The DiMarzio PAFs in the 20th are nice, but they don't make those anymore. I've heard great things about the 36th Anniversary PAFs though... Might be worth a try?

Ahhh. I forgot something... You wanted thick and fat? Look no further: http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/products.html

Possibly, thanks for the tip! I'll be gigging the JP and D2 Gold Roller this Saturday (right after the Morse/LaRue clinic) for the purpose of A/B in a live situation. This is the first of a series of gigs that by no happenstance coincide with the baseball playoff season. GO YANKEES!

I didn't realize you were a Yankees fan. This forum has kept me sane for the last 2 weeks. Gives me something to do between innings when I get fed up with NYYFans.com game thread, though nothing made feel better last night. Mind you I'm an overall baseball nut, and a member of the Society For American Baseball Research. I tend to take Yankee baseball very (too) seriously. I watch about 144 games a year.

If DiMarzio is what you're planning on putting I'd say that they are very articulate pickups by default and I am sure you're aware of that already. PAF 36th Anniversary are amazing and I have them in a Mahogany body though. Have you heard the Andy Timmons bridge?

Strat,
I think you're on the right track with the 36th Anniversary Neck

and maybe the AT-1 in the bridge like kaloyan mentioned.

I bet they'd make great pickups in your JP6.

Pete is a Yankees fan!!! That seals it... ALL my Balls are going through Pete from now on! Do you think we could get BP to pinstripe a guitar for us? Also, have you made it to the new stadium yet??? I was there opening day... it was awesome! Haha...

Yeah... the 36th anniversary PAF is definately something worht considering. But I really don't like the AT-1. It's a bit dark for my liking. I'm thinking, maybe MoJoe?

Or I could be totally lazy and just go for them bareknuckles.
