I am looking to take out the pups in my Axis but the pickups I am considering have a rectangular ear or wing or whatever you call it where the mounting screw goes (like on Seymour Duncans or EMGs) and won't fit in the triangular slot.

I guess I can try to bend the ear. Maybe file it down? Do you guys cut off the corners? Is there a simple way that I don't know about?

Recommendations requiring chiseling, blow torches or sulphuric acid not required!! LOL

I've used a Dremel tool to grind them down.

What are you doing with the stock Axis pickups???

It's customary on this forum to post pictures of you guitars as soon as you join or as soon as you get them. Therefore, Foggy will then proceed to "Inventorize" them !

I'm just yanking your chain man, no offense !

Back to the original question, I used a Dremel tool also. Just keep holding the new one up next to the old one to get the angle right. One thing to be cautious of before grinding on the mounting tabs: Make sure the new pups are not too deep!
Don't ask me how I know this, but let's just say that strings need some clearance or they get stuck when you play. :p

When grinding, cover the pup with maskingtape, otherwise it will be full off irondust when your done.

And if you use a Duncan pup, don't use an f-spaced/trembucker model, it wount fit without heavy modifications, with a regular sized Duncan humbucker you will only need to trim the pup's ears and don't worrie about the pole pieces, they will lineup good enugh.

I have a Seymour Duncan JB [bridge] in my Axis and I love it!
The sound is much sweeter and IMO better cause I like the texture and sound quality off SD JB's. The stock pup is good but sounds hard and uncomplex compared to the JB.
