I searched on this topic and I couldn't find anything. I was surprised as I would think many would be facing this challenge...

How do you guys switch on the fly? I'm sure most of you have 2 separate signal chains (pups to an amp, piezo to the sound board). Right now I'm using a cheapo stereo pan pedal. I was going to upgrade to an EB Stereo volume pedal but the last thing I need is more bulk on the floor in front of me.

I do want it to be foot controlled...isn't there a switchable(!) stereo a/b box on the market? The box that EB markets dosen't look like it has a switch on it.

thanks...

That PiezoGizmo looks like the bomb but I love my SansAmp Acoustic DI too much...of all the preamps I've used (and they've been many), this get's (by FAR) the best sound...

2 Cough Drops seem overkill and require balanced (mic) lines...

JP just said he routes mags/amp and peizo/board but not how he switches between them...

Anyone know someone that builds stop boxes? This would be pretty simple it seems.

maybe this?

You'll need at least two of those to switch both source and destination.
Voodoo Lab Amp switcher will let you do it: http://www.voodoolab.com/ampselector.htm

$225 for an a/c powered oversized A/B switch is way over the top...I can just get the passive EB Stereo Volume/Pan pedal for half the price.

Sounds like there isn't something out there already made for this. Has anyone modded an A/B pedal?

Poppa - There's gotta be a market for this! Simple, small solution to go from Piezo to Pups and back again. You're going to make me buy one of your volume pedals, Ain't cha?

do you want to ONLY alternate between them? as in only one on at a time?

if so, then all you need is a DPDT stomp switch. wire it up so that the left middle lug is mag input, the right middle lug is piezo input, and the mag output is left top lug, and peizo output is right top lug. attach bottom lugs to ground if your star grounding, or if your paranoid, get isolated jacks and run the left bottom lug to mag out ground, and right bottom lug to piezo out ground; just make sure you attach chassi ground to ONE of the outputs, i suggest mag. to add an LED, all you need is one led (obviously  ), a 100k resistor, and some kind of power (dc jack, or battery...battery will last a longass time), and a diffrent switch...a 3PDT. attach the + battery wire to led, attach resister to the short side of led (i think...), and attach the - wire to the middle far right lug, and attach top far right lug to the resistor.

if you want piezo, mag, or BOTH at the same time, try this:

youll need 2 stomp switches, they only have to be spdt, but dpdt's also work. wire the mag input to switch one, middle lug, and the mag output to switch one, top lug. piezo input goes to switch two, middle lug, and piezo out gets to go to switch two, top lug. see above for ground.

if you want LEDs for the/each switch, youll need a 3pdt switche for the either/or method, or 2 DPDTs for the either/or/and method...and alittle bit of ingenuity, because im not quite sure how to wire the 2 switch method correctly, without the LEDs getting less bright when both are on.

easily done, and CHEAP to boot. PM me if you need any help.

ps. i just reread that, and it confused ME, so just ask if you need a diagram, i can throw one up in paint if you want.

I PM'd you and then did some research...I think I can figure it out but any idea where i can get small profile stomp box blanks?

thnaks again!

I just picked up my Ernie Ball Splitter Box last night! I can't wait until tomorrow so I can velcro it to my pedalboard and start experimenting.

It's very nicely made, and I thought it was going to be larger.. I'm pleasantly surprised by its compactness.

I'm going to make my own but does the splitter box have a footswitch on it? That's what you need if you have to switch quickly back and forth during a song. Flipping switches and turning volume knobs don't cut it IMHO.

No switch in the box.. if it had a switch, it'd be a pedal, right? ;)

I think that I can manage just fine between:

1) the mag/piezo toggle on the JP6
2) the separate mag and piezo volume knobs on the guitar
3) volume pedals on the pedalboard

Personally I don't think that flipping a toggle is any more difficult than stepping on a pedal. I don't need the amp to switch channels, as I'll be routing the piezo into the PA system.. and the mags into my rig. Using volume pedals will allow any combination of the piezo+mags. The toggle will let me kill either signal entirely.

I'll experiment and see how it goes. Either way, I'll have a little adjusting to do.

Yeah...I tried the toggle/volume thing with my Godin LGX and it never worked near as well as a footswitch for me.

What does the splitter box do that a stereo "Y" splitter cable doesn't? Balance impedances?

Nothing. It just lets you have a single TRS cable coming from your guitar to the box. (Instead of a Y cable.)

It also lets you have a fixed endpoint for your piezo and mag wiring, which you can then just plug a TRS cable into...

otherwise you have to run each end of a "Y" cable to whatever various places you need them to go... one end to a PA or acoustic amp, one end to your mag setup. With the box, you can just run a TRS from the guitar to the box.. the other wiring is fixed.

Seriously? Mmm...I think you've sparked the interest in me, I might just have to bust out the soldering iron now...thanks .

Oh, just curious; Where did you get the supplies from?
