I've used SWR for about 5 years now and love the tone. I just purchased a SWR 350 Watt Head to go with my cab setup, upgraded from a 160 watt Workingman's 15.

Anyone use this particular Bass Amp in their set up, or have used it? I read some reviews and it seems to be a pretty solid head for small to medium sized venues.

Thanks in advance........... OMB

I used a Super Redhead for about 8 years, and then the speakers kind of disintegrated and it started shutting itself down after it got hot.

Silverado Special which had the combo version of the head (more or less) - Liked it a lot, just watch the enhancer circuit as it can pull you out of the mix just as easy as it can put you into it.

Since we are being honest. ;)

I actually had an all SWR rig for about 2 weeks.

I had a 750x head and 2- Goliath Jr cabs. The first cab died within a day, so wwbw sent me another. Just as the replacement came, the second one died! So I sent everything back and went with Bergantino cabs and never looked back. In all fairness, I did like the tone of the SWR with my Bongo.

I had the same problem with my SM400S years ago.....

The Bass 350 has decent volume(and great tone) when matched with an efficient 4ohm cab.If your just playing small/medium size venues and aren't competing with a wall of guitars it should be fine.....

Playing it in church with an acoustic guitar, piano and drums. I'm confident it will get the job done, just trying to find others who have used this puppy and see how they faired with it.......:)

Changing my setup from a combo amp to a couple of cabs and an Amp Head.....

Thanks for the post...........

I have a recently aquired 1997 SWR Bass 350 red face head and I am quite impressed with it. I have it sitting on top of an Eden 410XLT 4 ohm and the pair make for a sweet and loud rig.

SWR quality really blew after Fender purchased the company in 2002(?), and there are dozens of horror stories about amp and speaker failure as a result of cheapass parts being used to cut costs. All of my SWR cabs (2 x Goliath Juniors and 1 x Henry The 8x8) are pre-Fender, and I've flogged them hard without any hiccups at all. I would be extremely hesitant to buy any new SWR gear until the web chatter about their current quality goes away.

I've found the SWR cabs sound great with my Markbass head, a great match with the Bongos in particular.

I had a swr super redhead 350combo, I used it with a 1x15 workingman cab.

I still have the cab I use it for small gigs with my LMII.

the redhead is gone. I loved the tone I was getting from it but there was 2 main probs

1 it was great for small gigs but it was never loud enough for much else. There was just not enough power.

2 it got so hot after about an hour that I could not touch the front panel.

Over here mark bass gear is much cheaper, and has none of the probs that came with the swr gear. As I said I loved the swr tone and I do agree with the fender issue I have a friend that has old swr gear and will use nothing else.i can see it working in a church set up and i would think it more than capable.

BTW i am not trying to bash either fender or swr just speaking from my experience !!

I own the 350X head. I've gigged with it many times and I've never had any problems with it. It always gave me the power I needed and decent tone. It did get very hot though. Although it does say in the manual that this will happen. I used mine with a Goliath 3 cab and a Goliath Jr 3 cab. I still have the rig but haven't even touched since I got my Ampeg gear. I just love the tone and the power I get with the Ampeg gear so much more.:D

I had one of those older red 350 heads, a "Basic 350" which I recall pre-dates the Bass 350. It had a super sound, although it did get really hot. It never shut down on me, though.

I bought a used 350X about 4 years ago and never had a problem with it. It's my main amp...I can get the exact tone I want out of it with my Stingray and never had a problem with it. I run it through an Ampeg 410HLF cab...Great combo though the amp really shines with 15 inch speakers...I wish I had more head room

I'm going to use the Swr Amp I purchased with a 2x10 cab and 1x15 cab.

I think it will walk the dog and drag the puppies.......:D

I sold a rig to a guy one time that sounded unbelievably awesome. He got an SM500 head, and an Ampeg SVT15 and SVT410 cab. Holy crap did that sound good. We ran a BBE MaxCom through the amp (compressor in front, Maximizer in the loop) and it hit the proverbial brown note. Some little kid running around the store had to go change his shorts. The Ampeg cabs seemed to tame some of that extreme high end SWR is so proud of, and the SWR kept the Ampeg cabs from sounding muddy.

I have an old SM-900 that runs very hot. I contacted SWR about it and they got back to me saying that its normal. I haven't had problems. I imagine it would be the same with the 350 except for possibly the F Factor.

That happens to me too... two weeks go had to play in a convention center for easter, so we had to crank the sm-900 a good bit, my rig actually overheated and shut down for about 10 mins during practice... but it was fine for the rest of the day...

I agree with that...especially when I play my bass with a pick...warms up the sound for the pick use...

I used SWR stuff exclusively for almost 20 years. Over time I have used Studio 220 Amp, Goliath I 4x10, 2 x Goliath II Jr. 2x10, 2 x Henry The 8x8, Grandprix Preamp, Stereo 800 power amp. I've never had any problems (except when someone broke the XLR out of the Studio 220).

However, as of today, I sold all of it (even send out the trusty 220) in favor of a MarkBass F1 with 104HR (4x10) cab. I couldn't be happier with my sound (well... there's always something to wish for... ;))

The (old) SWR gear was of good quality and really innovative at the time it was put on the market. But time has moved on. There are better sounding and lighter amps available today.

Tis hard to pick a rig sometimes! haha. The Eden 210XST is the cab that really does my SR5 justice. I went through an Ampeg cab phase but really missed the tone of the Eden stuff. I bought all my cabs used except for the 210XLT and was able to get some very good deals. There may be lighter, more current cabs out on the market today but i think its hard to beat the quality and great tone of the Eden stuff.
