I've always used slinkys.
Well until I found juststrings.com. There's not a great range of strings available in australia.
Now I'm trying out whatever I so wish :D

slinkys are better than average, each to their own

5-String Slinky's

So far, I've used two sets of strings on my new Stingray 5.

I believe that the set that originally came on the bass from the factory were the 0.045, 0.065, 0.080, 0.100, 0.130 Slinky's. (Correct me if I'm wrong, EB.) Those are the Regular 5-String Slinky Bass strings. The new Stingray 5 with the Regular 5-String Slinky's sounded GREAT!!

However, I heard that heavier bass strings sounded better, so I recently tried the 5-String Power Slinky's, which have gauges of 0.050, 0.070, 0.085, 0.105, and 0.135. The Stingray 5 with the Power Slinky's sounded GREAT too! The extra tension seemed to bow the neck a little bit, so last night I adjusted the truss rod a little bit. That seemed to work fine, although I think the string action is still a little higher than the setup from the factory with the Regular Slinky's.

Regardless, both the Stingray 5 sounds GREAT with both the Regular 5-String Slinky and the Power Slinky strings. I couldn't be happier with the sound of the bass.
