Howdy folks

Havent posted much here lately being honest so hope all my fellow ball lovers are keeping well.
Just wanted to ask if theres many people here who use the G system from Tc electronics,ive been planning to get one for ages to complete my guitar rig and now they have come out with a new IB moddified version in a stunning black colour.Anyone know anything about this?I have checked it out already on the TC website etc and the input buffer has been modified by some tech genius in Italy.I am seriously thinking of investing in one.
Im looking for advice from other G system users who post here for advice.:)

Cheers
Colin

Had it. Great unit and effects, but I moved on to the Axe-FX Ultra and never looked back. If I still had real amps and looking for an effects unit, the G-System would be it.

I have had mine for a little over a year and it did take me a while to bond with it -- and there are still times when I feel I haven't bonded with it completely. I was almost to the point of sending the unit back before I read Laird Williams guide which is much more in-depth than the TC manual. You can download the PDF on this site: TC Electronic Department at Guitar Affair
The forum on TC's site is great for help as well.

I'm know I'm not anywhere near using the unit to it's full potential and currently have it set with up my own presets by tweaking the factory presets and saving them off to another bank. The effects on it are great. I love the way the delay carries over to another preset and just doesn't abruptly stop when switching. The unit is also very well built (and looks really cool on a dark stage :D )

I did have one issue with the G-system while setting up for a gig that was really frustrating. I'm running the G-sys using the 4 cable method through a Mesa Mark V and it had been working fine. However on this particular night, I could get no output from the G-system even though none of my settings had changed from rehearsal the day before. I ended up unplugging the G-system and going straight into the amp to get through the show. After getting tips from the TC Forum, I discovered the volume of the G-sys had changed to -100 and it was suggested that I may have turned the system off with my volume pedal in the heel down position :eek:. I've also heard if you rackmount the brains and turn the unit on without the pedal and brain connected, all of your internal settings reset :confused:. Not sure if this is true or not but based on the experience I had with the internal volume setting, I'm not going to test the theory.

G System

I use the Gsystem live every weekend, and how i use it is that I have a Mesa Road King. The Road King is a 4 channel amp and i didn't want the Controller for the amp and also a bunch of pedals, I would be tap dancing all night switching channels and the correct effects needed for each song. How I run my set up is I rack the brain of the Gsystem, and it is midi'd to a Mini Amp Gizmo, which allows me to change channels on the Roadking with the gsytem floorboard and the effects of the gsystem with only one press of the floorboard button.

I would never use anything else, the effects are totally clean the options are endless.
Plus the price of them are about half what they use to be.:eek:

Hi Jackson (if this isnt your first name then apologies)

Thanks for the advice mate your setup looks exactly what im looking for.My amp is a Blackstar series one 200 head and it too has 4channels like the roadking you have.Whats the midi amp gizmo for?Has the roadking not got a midi connection as my blackstar head does so i may not need the amp gizmo connection?
One of the reasons i am looking at the G system as it can control my amp channels so i can remove the need to use the footswitch and also the delay FX from TC are some of the best around.I play in a coverband and will need to program in alot of different tones for different songs at the press of a button.
My only concern with buying this is the amount of issues people seem to have with different amps like tonesucking and problems with levels and noise,ground hum etc etc.Ive done a fair bit of research on the TC forum already.

I see also in your setup you have the Line 6 Relay wirless unit,is it any good as i was looking at getting this in the future.
Apologies for all the questions and thanks for the advice.

Cheers
Colin

Hey Colin,
I don't mean to jump in front of Jackson2112, but from what I recall in my research, the channel switching of the TC doesn't work well with Mesa Amps. The Amp Gizmo is a midi switcher that hooks in to the G-sys & Mesa (there is a specific cable for the Mesa) and you can program any preset of the G-Sys with any channel of the Mesa. I don't know if you would need it with your Blackstar but for Mesa users with a G-system, it is a great piece of gear. Not having to carry around the Mesa footswitch and tap dance all night was a great selling point for me as well.
I have not had any problems with tone sucking or extra noise. Other than the one issue I had that I mentioned, it has functioned great. :D

I had a G-System a while back. It's a great effects unit, but integrating it into your rig can be difficult, especially if you use the 4 Cable Method.

I love my gsystem I've had issues also with it going out during one show but I think that was due to a faulty cable but all I had to do was unplug unplug from the effects loop and plug straight in to the amp and the G still changed the channels on the amp. Another time we had issues with a generator at an outside gig and it blew the fuse in my amp and I had different amp fuses with me. I run a mesa vtwin in the drawer as another preamp and all I had to do was run the return signal from the g into an adapter direct to the board and presto direct rig using the vtwin channels. Its extremely versatile if you can get your head around it and it can handle some pretty amazing setup ideas. It has a left and right output for stereo function so all you have to do is use loops 4 & 5 for your amp(s) preamp and then decide which signal is going where left or right. It is entirely possible to do something like run a mesa mark preamp to a marshall power amp and visa versa with a 2 head 2 cab setup.

No problem Joe and thanks for your intial reply.Glad to hear you have not had any problem with tone sucking and extra noise.That seems to be the biggest issue ive seen over from on the TC forum from what people have been saying.Things like buffers,ground hum and all the diiferent setting of levels etc is mind boggling to me as im not tech head being honest.I have researched alot about impedance and buffers etc but that would be my only concern with buying the g system but i think i will invest in one alright.:)

G-System Alternatives

I don't own a G-System, but here's how I see it.

The G-System combines three different products:
* a loop switcher for pedals
* a foot controller
* a multi-effects unit

You could buy a separate product for each of those functions, and it would come out to the same money.

I didn't buy one because it doesn't seem to provide adequate effects in front of the amp. I think it offers a few choices, but it's not as comprehensive as I'd like. They really expect you to use floor-based pedals in the loops.

Some alternatives:

* A Line6 M13 floor unit ($500) in front of the amp, and a TC G-Major II ($500) in the amp's effects loop.

* A used Fractal AxeFx ($1200) -- have a listen on YouTube.

* A Liquid Foot controller and an RJM switcher.

* A Ground Control Pro controller and a GCX switcher.

Etc.

Hi Guys!
I bought G System recently and after a few days of figuring out how to make it work I'm a happy user ;) Altough, there is one thing that doesn't work well - when I'm using my JP7 piezo pickup the sound is distorted (not all the time - it's ok at the begining, but the ending is noisy). It's weird, 'couse the signal seems to be ok according to the input meter on G... Any advice?

Cheers!
