New flash - on Saturday night after their Houston show, Engine Down's van and trailer were stolen from the parking lot of the Red Roof in on NW Freeway in Houston. All of their gear, 3 laptop computers, cameras, merchandise: t-shirts, stickers, buttons, CDs, personal items are all gone. The band has the fortune of having Brazil as their touring partners who are lending them what they need to play to stay on the road. Right now, the El Paso show will be cancelled for ED because of logistics, all other dates should stay on schedule. ANYONE WITH ANY TIPS or information about this crime should contact the Houston Police Department. Case #132442904T

UPDATE: The van was recovered, stripped and empty, sometime late Sunday night. Trailer and contents of van and trailer are still missing.

Thanx Shave!
Yeah those EngineDown dudes are a pretty special bunch, great songwriting, nice dudes (met em a while back in NYC). hopefully things turn up for them. I'd hate to be that far from home and have my life flipped upside down like that.

that sucks balls!!!! im a huge fan of Lookout Records (local bay area label) and it sucks even more that this had to happen to someone off their lineup (not trying to say its ok for this to happen to anyone).

im definately gonna try n get all the musicians i know to "pitch in" and grab their latest disc.
(you can hear an mp3 and buy the cd at: http://lookoutrecords.com/catalog/item.php3?matrix_id=1020)

Why can't anybody leave other peoples stuff alone? My band got back in town Saturday night from a show in AL and when I went outside on Sunday morning, someone had busted the lock on the coupler latch and ripped out the wiring trying to take the trailer off our truck. The good news is they didn't attempt to get inside... Best wishes to Engine Down...

that sucks.

as i stated another time i saw this exact thread.

1.) you need to have a kill switch put into your van if you are doing a lot touring. we have one, it defintely helped us not get our **** stolen, since the van was broken into, but couldnt be started or moved.

2.) when you park your van, anywhere overnight, makesure you can park the trailer up against something. like a huge fence, or a telephone pole. so if you cant move it, the only way you are getting in is if you take a sawzall and cut the trailer in half.

3.)equipment insurance, for theft/accident through the insurance company, its like 200 bucks a month, you just need a list of your gear and an know how much the gear costs. its usually around 200 a month, for a full band.

That's good advice. It makes me sick to think about my band in this situation. Good luck to them.

if you don't have a killswitch available.

when you park for the night, take out the battery, or the take off the steering wheel.

adds a few extra minutes to your day, but it's a world of assurance.

What xshawn said plus.. get an alarm installed in both van and trailer. Louder the better.
