Thanks Sterling and the rest of you guys. That's good advice you've given. I hadn't given much thought to the weight issue and didn't realise the mahogany weighed more. I only rested the guitars on my knee!! Standing up for 1-2hour sets would be very different. I'm going to check out the 2HH SR4's and also look at the Sterling's. I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi Anelka

I didn't welcome you on the other thread, so I'll do it now: Welcome! :D

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Sterling as a female bass player myself - plus I find it more comfortable to play due to the contours etc - it's more suited to the female figure I think! And the weight issue is an important one. The neck is the best production neck in the business and is that bit slimmer than the Stingray neck which comes in really handy.

I would suggest that you do maybe have a look at the Bongo - being made of basswood it's not desperately heavy, and Tiffles who frequents the boards here can give some advice as she is a Bongo player.

Whereabouts in the UK are you? It may be worth you checking out Machinehead - a store owned by a forumite - he's an EB dealer and all-round good guy :) Machinehead Music, Guitar Shop - Where service counts!

Stick around - we're a weird bunch, but a good one. And yes, we do tend to gang up on Sterling sometimes - altho it doesn't always work! :D

I come from the world of Warwicks, talk about having a tree around your neck.
I am also new to the MM series of basses. I just recently purchased a Sterling HH Dargie Delight and cannot wait for it to get here. :D

I was unaware it was one of the lightest basses in the family, but that would be a nice feature. :)

What Azzy said.....

I dont know what Azzy is trying to say about my body but those contours work well for me to. Areyou saying I have boobs?

They dont gang up on me they are attracted to me as I am a chick magnet.

CHuckWard lkes the STerling and he does have man boobs.

1. Thanks Azzy for the kind words about my shop! Remember the next string change is on me.

2. Bassgirl - be more than happy to get some basses for you to try out - the UK distributors and I work closely so we can get some items you may like on approval if we dont have what you want in stock. PM me or use the site from my sig.

Cheers

Dave

BP we only gang up on you when we would like your attendance at certain trans-atlantic guitar shows ;) But we do love you lots :) Both your chick magnet and bass equivalents!

Dave - get some EB flats in stock and you've got a deal ;) We want to come in for a setup soon actually as Trev's got some issues on the AL with buzzing on the E & A above the 5th - truss tweaks hasn't fixed it - I think he would like to watch Rob do a setup. Anyway, I'll stop hijacking this thread and PM you :D

the weight of the 30th was very similar to my old warwick corvette 6 string std. The 30th is a great bass if you can deal with the weight. I personally love heavier instruments, so it works for me!

Hi guys,
Can anyone help me out here?
I have a chance of a new SR4 HH Trans Red at a reasonable price but the serial number is E44910. This is a 2 p/up HH model. It seems that it has been around a while. Can anyone give me an idea when it was manufactured?
Thanks.

The HH models only hit these shores in spring last year so its no more than a year old.
Hope thats specific enough for you...

My 30th is very light - 9.2 lbs according to "he who should not be mentioned on this forum" (the dealer who sold it). I hear they vary quite a bit. My Bongos are very light and comfy!!

Thanks Exlurker thats strange because the guy also has a maple neck also HH which has an E58 number ?

I have been told that EBMM serial numbers are printed on the neckplates which are used in random order. The numbers on my guitars are 234 apart but there is 4 years between them. (Further complicated by my playing backwards!)

Now that gets CONFUSING!

BG-UK, I have an HS Bongo that I love and my band does as well. It is a wonderful instrument -- Tiffles definitely has good taste in basses as well as men;) . My Sterling HS is a great player, too. It's so darned easy to play it almost feels like cheating. I don't like heavy basses and both are very comfortable.

I like the necks on both basses, too. I like a thinner neck front-to-back and both of these work well for me. The Sterling's neck is noticeably less wide across the fingerboard, but to me that dimension isn't a big consideration. It may be the same or slightly thicker than the Bongo, but they're so close that someone from the company would have to tell you that.

Whatever choice you make, you'll get an excellent instrument! I'm looking forward to your review.

Strange, there must be an explanation. All I know is that I played one of the first ones to hit the UK at the London, Guitar Show at Wembley this time last year. (on the Bass Centre stand) I was in the market for a double HH, I went with a Bongo in the end...

Does sound a little odd - mind you Strings and Things will know the answer if one of the friendly UK dealers can check it out - as will EB.
All I know is that my SR5 was in the first batch of twin hummers to hit the UK (serial no. is in my sig).
Hope you snag something soon BG-UK. :)
