Thanks, Scott - Repair Tips?

Yikes, I managed to break off the volume knob on my otherwise pristine Stealth Bongo. Sheared the thing right off. (I was moving a cab, lost my balance, and rolled slowly backwards right into the Stealth on its stand.) I put the bass away for a few days so I would not be reminded of the shame. Finally called EB customer support to buy a new pot and knob. Scott shipped me the parts the same day with no charge. Excellent!! Thank you.

OK -- attempting the repair surgery today if anybody has any tips.

if you dont know how to solder, take it to a qualified repairman!

if you are even just a little, tiny, wincy bit uncertain, take it to a qualified repairman!

surface mounted electronics can be tricky to work on unless you have useable tools

Took the rear service cover off and immediately came to the same conclusion!!

I agree, EB customer service are great, Dan sent me out some hardcase keys the other day FOC. Little things

now for part 2 of the task.. find a good repairman

if you go to any tv/radio/cellphone repair center they should have the necessary tools and experience to get the job done. as for guitar repairmen, some can solder, others cant so it might be difficult to know if they are good or not

For those who do know how to solder, the key to a clean and hassle-free install of a pot on a Bongo includes using something like a braided strand of solder remover. Remove the old solder from all the contact points, then remove the pot. Put the new pot into the correct holes, and solder it back in. This may be common sense to some, or most of you, but not me. I tried warming up the solder and removing things that way for a couple projects only to have the board fry. It's much easier this way.

The Knoxville GC has a tech inside... He is not part of GC and only accepts cash though...

It looks to me like you have to get at the pot from the rear service panel and remove the circuit cards first. Looks complicated. It there a way to get the pot out from the top side of the bass?

YOu need to remove the knob from the top... and pot from the rear. It is not easy unfortunately. The guy at GC can do it for you and is not expensive at all.

$20 later and the Stealth Bongo is repaired! Intonation tweaked up a bit for good measure. Thx for the tip.
