A month or so ago, I posted a query about a quality gig bag for my then-newly acquired SR5. Just thought I'd let y'all know that I got one and just now put the StingRay in it. Great construction, good fit, seems a lot more robust than others I've seen. Olivia (the bass) is now back in her hard shell case, but now I can carry her around in my Mustang ragtop.:D

I like having a quality gig bag for taking a bass with me in the car. The hard cases are a bit bulky for just everyday stuff. Those Mono bags are something else! Congrats

As an adult who is the only one who ever moves my basses to and from the car at gigs, I have been using nice gigbags for quite a while now. My heavily padded Levy's leather gigbags provide more than enough protection for my basses and look amazing, to boot.

I'd love if there was a high quality EB/MM branded leather gigbag that fit the longer Bongo 5s and 6s. I'd buy one in a second. Heck, I'd pay more if it had the Bongo or Musicman logo embroidered down the length of the neck of the bag. Imagine a BFR that came with a custom high end tweed or leather gigbag? *swoon*

Of course, I don't see them selling enough to make it worth their while to pursue. Oh, well.

Agreed! I haul my hard cases, it would be nice to load up gig bags instead b

Ha ha. I agree. There's no point in being a Music Man StingRay nut unless you can be a Music Man StingRay NUT!:D

I'm looking for a decent gig bag that can be carried via a sling and NOT backpack straps
My Sadowsky case is just too thick and heavy.
Many gig bags don't offer enough protection for reasonable in town transportation.
Any recommendations that will fit a Stingray?

Looking at the M80, it has several rings for attaching a sling. It also has backpack straps, but they tuck into a pocket on the back if you don't want to use them. I pick it up by the handle; I'll never use the straps. I'd recommend it. My SR5 is a nice fit and I don't expect any anxiety about her safety for the sorts of places I haul her to.

I got me a Mono M80 Dual Bass (yeah, "mono dual", what a great name) for my two SR5s.

The pockets are somewhat small, but they suffice. The protection of the basses is great, for a bag. And I love being able to carry two rays more easily than I can carry one ray in a HSC. Plus, I like the design, and the "build quality".

Ok, if I get hit by a car while walking with the bag, I suppose the basses can get damaged more easily than in a HSC. But then again, if I get hit by a car, damaging my basses is probably the least of my problems.

I have a Mono M80 Single; I have a Reunion Blues Sonoma leather Bag, I have an I-Gig tweed you could drive a truck over, I've had the Sadowsky Porta-Bag, and I have "another" Bass in a Contego Pro-Tec, as well as many other bags for my numerous (16) basses...!...But something struck me as MISSING from this thread.

What-Pray tell- is wrong with the MM gigbag as pictured?? I've had one for years; it served my Sterling for tons of gigs, and fits my HH Bongo (the best btw) just fine.

Many gigbags are overkill, If you anticipate wear and tear and abrupt cornering through clubs, use a HSC or be careful. If you travel by air, best get an ATA- I'm looking at an awesome high-tech super-lightweight carbon fiber ATA that would set me back about as much as a new EBMM bass, probably will pass on that for now.

But the MM gigbag is the business for just about anything! Not enough protection? Not thick enough?
I'm calling "yeah right"
It's actually a great gigbag, and will do just as much as the high-$$ bags will. Yep.
Take that to the bank..or not:D

I also have a Mono M80 dual bag and love it. Plenty of protection, easy to carry with backpack straps or by the handle, and very light.

lpdeluxe - Thanks, didn't realize the M80 had rings so that I can use a strap for a over the shoulder carry; BTW the Sadowsky case I was referring to is not the rectangular one but rather a case that I think is made by I-Gig or Contego; sort of an oval shape that is thick, strong, heavy, has a rain cover, and more than I need; it is only about 2 lbs lighter than the stock case and somewhat smaller but thicker

Mabongohogany - Wasn't aware the EB made a bass gig bag as the only one listed at GC says it's fits guitars

How thick is the padding on the bass version?

Ruh-Roh...May be discontinued, says it (P/N 5994) is "unavailable" at MF & Music 123.

Maybe EBMM Customer Service will chirp ion to confirm that.

Too, bad; made by Levy's for MM, it was/is a very good useful bag, that hangs with the $$$ ones.
Not heavily padded, but still firm and solid enough so that (IMO) when a gigbag is appropriate it will do just fine. Hit a concrete wall with it, and... Well- you get it- Don't hit concrete walls!

The Sadowsky version you refer to is their Porta-bag- very nice but bulky, like the I-Gig and even the Mono, sorta.

That's why I suggested the MM bag, but -

No Mas por Bajo!:D

I'd like a MM logo gig bag, but such is life...and I'm sure that an unbranded one is marginally safer from the threat of theft in some environments. As it is, at this point I don't carry my gear into dark alleys or lowlife dives: I'm much more likely to be seen playing my 'Ray at a theatre event or wedding reception.

I like the quality of the M80, especially over another factory's gig bag that I got just because the case was too long for the 'Stang's rear seat. I have yet another manufacturer's gig bag that is very well made, so of course I just bought a hard case for that instrument.:D
