Hey Im a JP6 player

my friend has ordered a JP7 because he loves the neck on my JP6

I tried to tell him that the seven is obviously a lot different

he also plays silhs and we all know how tiny the necks on those are

is the transition from a silh to a jp7 a hard one???

I found the transition from jp6 to a 7 to be fairly unusual

hey man

the transition from any 6 to a 7 will be weird at first no matter what the guitar. I went from a Jackson to a Shecter 7 then to my EB and they all have 3 completly different necks on them. The JP7's are absolutly brilliant, i dont own one but iv played them many times. Your buddys getting a wicked guitar man, id steal it if i were you

Going from a 6 to a 7 is not the hard part. It's getting use to 7 and going back to the 6. It will take some practice to get comfortable with both.

i had a schecter 7string and that extra string can screw with your head for awhile. You think you are on the D string but it's the A string etc.. But they are fun to play.

thanks for the response's

yeah he intends on having the silh. his main guitar and switching to the 7 for a couple of tunes

I just wondered if this was gonna be difficult or not.

He hasnt played a JP7 and was basing his buy from my 6,in fact the only seven he has played was a cheap Ib@nez

as for confusion,he might be but I aint now every band I have played in the bass player insists on using 5 strings

this used to be a pain in the ass

Ok... when you feel your discomfort on the 7, remember this: I went from an Ibanez JPM small neck profile to an Ibanez 7 string 27" scale baritone. My left hand couldn't pick up things for a while... too sore.

So consider yourself lucky you have a nice JP7 to migrate to rather than in my case... whahahaha...

I got used to a 7 a long time ago and had a very hard time switching back to a six.

One thing I noticed about a lot of 7's is the string spacing is closer (maybe it's just my imagination). The JP7 didn't seem to have that oddity.

Another thing that made a 7 so easy for me is the way I tune it. I tune the top string to low 'A' so you have root - fifth - root on the top three strings. The jazz players tune it that way as well. I just get lost with 'B' tuning.
