Hey,

Don't often post on this side! :D I'm looking to get a bass setup at home for recording and practising purposes, so I was thinking about getting a Bass POD or similar, unless you guys tell me otherwise. ;)

On the guitar side, I have a V-amp which I think is a great little unit for the money, and I owned a POD2 for several years which I thought was great but I've had better results using a good DI box and some fx in terms of dynamics/feel than I've ever been able to get out of any amp modeller.

Are there any DI boxes or any pre-amps that you'd reccomend for me to be able to plug straight into my computer?

Budget wise I'm pretty open. I'm a student so the cheaper the better.. but if somethings worth paying for I'll gladly pay it.

Cheers! :D

I use a presonus firebox and love it. Run it into my Apple PB. needs firewire tho'. Very portable since you can power it off of the firewire port but will shorten charge life. Use garageband to get all the effects I could possibly need.

I use one of these at home for recording and low volume practicing.I have it hooked up directly to my computers sound card(Nvidia GFORCE4) and it sounds great through my little JBL speakers........It has guitar/bass effects/amp sims and the drum machine is great also....

The Boss looks pretty cool, a bit too extreme in terms of price though. The recording etc I'm going to be doing is gonna be just for myself, I can't justify spending £350 on such a nice unit. Perhaps I should've specified that a bit more clearly when I was talking about budget! :D

The firebox seems great at what it does, but from the reccomendation I take it that you'd reccomend any good quality audio interface? In my mind I thought that there would be more bass-orientated interface, with EQ even. But anyway, if this is the case. As I'm not using a Mac, if I were to go down this route what software would you reccomend?

The other thing I've been looking at is getting a Line6 Toneport, as I'd be able to use it for guitar and vocals too. Anyone had any experience with one of these?

Ta! :D

I have a Cafe Walter Headphone Amp. Very simple setup and perhaps a bit pricey in terms of features/buck. However, it's been great so far and gives you a very good idea of what your tone really sounds like.

Just caught a Line6 Toneport UX2 on ebay at a good price and within 10mins drive to be able to pick it up. I think the fact that I can use it for guitar and vocals as well just really hit it in for me. That and the fact it was local - I couldn't resist! :)

Cheers for your help anyway! :D

thumbs up for that one , I use the same stuff , works good , and really good with Garageband , it sounds even better than with that cheap butt Cuebass they bundle it with , but hey , I have life 05 , is it really worth it to get the 06 ( at this point I should just wait for 07) is the new garage band has better effect and stuff ( I don't much care about the " movie " thing you can do , but whatever )
