I just bit the bullet and dropped the D-Sonic into my JP6, blade facing the neck, wire colors matching the PC board layout. All is fine and it sounds great, much fuller than the stock bridge pickup. One problem I do notice is that the bridge is noticeably louder than the neck, it's almost like there is hardly any noticeable tone difference between the two. Has anyone else who has done the pickup change notice this? I think part of the problem could be the hookup wire bundle is jammed underneath the pickup since the pickup is installed backwards (i.e. instead of the wire bundle exiting straight out of the right side of the pickup into the route hole in the body, it exist out the left, has to cross the pickup cavity to exit out and is jammed underneath the pickup) and it won't allow me to lower the pickup into the body any more. Any remedies for this problem?

The JP pickup cavities should allow just enough room to fit the wire underneath, with the pickup in either orientation. The pickup "feet" should come in contact with the body when the screws are tightened. I haven't experimented with a D-Sonic yet, but do the pole pieces stick out the bottom? If so, make sure that the wire is not under them, that way you get the most clearance.

Worst case scenario - dremel !!!

D Sonic

Hi,
I just did the same install Friday after work. Mine works perfect. There is a very distinct tone difference between the two pickups and the volume levels are fairly balanced. I notice the distinction more as a result of tonal difference than a volume difference. I think you should check your work - maybe you got the wire messed up under the p-up or possibly got some solder jumping the pc board contacts. I inspected mine with a magnifying glass and ran a point between the contacts just to make sure that they were still isolated from each other.
( the stuff is very small ) I think the D-Sonic is a very worthy upgrade.

Thanks y'all. I did check my work on the PC board pretty carefully, it was a very tight spot to work with. It took me three tries to get it right. I noticed I had some bad solder bleed the first time around and the pickup didn't work, then I redid it, still had some bleed and the pickup sounded very thin and nasally. Third time I think was the charm, everything seems isolated and the pickup is very full sounding. I think my problem may lie in the pickup cavity itself. Gonna have to take it and try to reseat it.
