Hands down, "All Along The Watchtower".

When I used to slut myself out weekly at blues jams/gigs, all the Texas guitarists wanted to play (besides every SRV tune in the catalog) "All Along The Watchtower".

I'd say, "Wake me up when it's over."

well being in punk bands usually means that theres that one token emo song ... or even worse, the 2 (maybe 3) chord wonder someone wrote a lot time ago that they love and refuse to let go of. depending on lyrical content i may or may not say something about it

Ain't doin' them things fun? The band I'm in started out being the weekly jam/host band at a bar right in the middle of the UConn campus. Sometimes they're kinda fun, but the SRV/Clapton wanna-bes do get tiresome. I had very few bass players wanting to sit in. It would be real nice to have one of the guests play one of the endless, geetar solo ridden, snore-fest song for you.

The absolute worst thing though, is a real bad sit it drummer. Trying to hold a song together with a totally timeless, clueless drummer is torture.

There was one great moment however, at one of these events. This kid comes up and wants to sing a song. He's plastered. We started playing a one chord boogie/John Lee Hooker/Green Onions sorta thing. His totally improvised lyrics go something like this: "I like Beer. Beer Likes Me. Beer is good. I like Beer", etc.

His timing, phrasing and meter was good. He was truley inspired. The crowd went berserk. They started to sing along. It was the most heartfelt and stupid performance I've ever witnessed.

I go back and forth on this. Back when I was doing a lot of it, the answer would have been "NO!" Now that I'm in a new town, don't know anyone and hardly ever get out to play in public, I miss it. Even the crappy stuff.

One of the guys I played with regularly in San Antonio was a really hot sorta Texas blues guitarists. I liked him. One night I saw him with a truly nightmare drummer; he was good, the bassist was fine, but the drummer was just...well, a nightmare.

We were talking afterwards. He said, "You're only as good as your drummer." Isn't that the truth?

I did a gig once where this guy got out of the crowd and sang crocodile rock while standing on his head. He sang ok so I said why not sing another? His reply was that he only knew one song and he could only do that while on his head.

I have to agree with Jack. "All Along the Watchtower" has got to be the most boring song I've ever had to play. It goes on and on and on and on and on... yeah, boring like that.

I think "Gloria" is much more entertaining. Another Eagles song that just lasts forever is "Lyin' Eyes". It's way too long.

I was dep for a band on Saturday night and we were playing some tune or other and then the singer called "mavericks in C" mid song - didn't bother to ask me if I knew it.

"Cocaine". I love Clapton,... but every cover bar band that I was in did it, and sometimes went on for fifteen minutes.
at least it has a groove...all along the watchtower drove me nuts.
