Linguistics: the study of human speech including units, nature, structure, and modification of language.

Good thing to have a degree in I would say... but you should be intriged by Billy-Bob's modification of the language....as apposed to shooting it down... let the guy spell things wrong and use incorrect puncuation, its not very important to be speaking correctly in a forum on the internet about guitars and basses... and its a lot easier to use short cuts than it is to type out every word and use every puncuation mark....

I love playing with language. But, like music, if you're going to break the rules - and I often do - it's maybe important to first understand the rules.

Otherwise, you're just throwing a crowbar down an empty hall in the dark.

well just out of curiosity, how many languages to you speak...? I can speak english... and am working on french, I somtimes think it would be cool to get a degree and maybe major in english or some language, but too much reading.. think I will stick with music and other various performance arts... thats what I am best at...

Jack, don't apologize. Though you may be a bigger man than me. (INSERT SIZE JOKE HERE) My perspective: If a writer can't be bothered to use, at least, semi-standard English, then I have to wonder about the validity of the comments. Most of us are fairly serious about our involvement in music, and while we have our fun (see fiElDy ruLz thread elsewhere), forum participation is about the trading of information. When I read Jack's posts, I know I can trust what he says. I may not always agree, but I know he's taken the time to craft a thoughtful response. When I read a post devoid of punctuation and capitalization, I can only assume the writer either doesn't care or doesn't know how to use standard English. Please, just don't tell me it's a time saving issue. Now, if u r doing it to be cool, well, I guess in some circles it's cool. None that I know, and I'm a high school teacher in my other life. Is my writing here and in other forums always perfect? Of course not. But I've clearly made an effort because my reputation is important to me.
