IT'S HERE!

One brand-new (built in October) Bongo 5H in Candy Red.

First thing I did was install the EBMM strap locks that I got with it. Contrary to what the video on the EB website would have you believe, you do not need to drill deeper holes in the body, at least not on a Bongo. The screws that come with the strap locks are actually shorter than the stock screws.

The strap locks themselves are larger than I thought they'd be, and very nicely made. Same operating principle as Dunlops (captured ball bearings that engage in a groove inside the strap button), but they seem smoother out of the box.

Hmmm..... there seems to be something missing from this post. What could it be?

Congrats on the bass.

Candy Red was my first Stingray. I love that color! I loved that bass!! I hate thieves!!!

Can't wait to see some pics, adouglas. It just might push me over the edge on a bongo (I can't believe I just said that). No turkey legs please. :D

By the way, this bass is further proof of one of the fundamental laws of the universe:

All EBMM finishes look better in person.

Like my DG Bongo, the paint has this incredible, beautiful sparkle to it that looks a mile deep. It's not a flake finish...the sparkles are way too small.

warning: this message contains *humour* and nuts!

Guys & Gals I am very very concerned.... this forum is becoming quite bad for my mental health, and ultimately for my financial future. Call it subliminal mind invasion, but the more you ladeeeees are showing me these Bongo things the more they are growing on me.

Now that little Candy Red sexy number that AD (lucky so & so) just received today is giving me the right horn! ;)

I can now see myself seriously considering using both the insurance repayment cash from my bike theft and my work xmas bonus to go towards one of these funny bongo things fretted with 5 strings, HH p/ups maple neck & f/board, no matching headstock, no pickguard if possible, (is there such a thing?) and I will be left wondering if I will prefer it to my 2000 SR5.

Ahhh well, let's see... only time will tell if this forum is really hypnotic or not.

In conclusion, AD you've got a very nice instrument, if I were you I would insure it for 3 times its value. Well done.

Oh I forgot... as I mentioned earlier this thread contained humour and nuts.

Well the humour will be when my better half finds out of about my intentions and the nuts... well mine will probably be kicked so far up my... :D

There isn't such a thing. HH, sure, that can be easily done, but Bongos come with only rosewood boards and with matching headstocks plus a guard.

But here's the good news:

They're amazing. That's mine, by the way, that has been sort of my Desert Island bass since.....spring of 2006, I think. Time flies when you have a red single Bongo 5!

Andy: Glad to see your past fiscal responsibility has reaped such handsome rewards. Candy Red is a cool color. I have a Big Poppa H in Candy Red.

Play it in good health, my friend. And thanks for the fretless postings and information. I have been playing my new fretless endlessly. I put some half-rounds on it. Sounds awesome.

And why is that, it would probably look sensational

Just FYI, there are no Bongos with maple boards. Hope that helps you resist.

Well you know, all my life (due to personal preference) I have only owned maple f.board basses and guitars with the exception of one PRS (click here to reveal) that I just
had to have because:

1) it was previously owned by Mike Oldifield which he himself used to record Tubular Bells II
2) because it was the only 5 strings I have ever seen in London having searched for 4 years
2.5) because it was probably the last one I could ever find here in UK from their first production before they were discontinued so... never say never...

... meantime I live in hope that maybe one day the maple board Bongo could be an option offered by the boss, after all I don't see why not, alder bodies & maple necks have been going like macaroni & cheese for as long as I can remember. :D

Well, not really.

Our scientists have determined that in the future, all bass players will own Bongos.

Yes it is like a worm in my head at the moment, as you can see from the distractions it is causing to my work...
