I took my Sterling to my big funk/disco band gig last night. I have had the gig for just about a year now. I have taken several other kinds of basses and they sounded good but have not taken too many EB MM basses. I took a killer white SR to my second gig and it was the best friggin tone for that group but as usual, like an idiot I traded it away the next week. I have been w/out an SR5 for a year so have not had one to take to this gig (and the one I own now has been in the shop since I got it
). So last night I took my new to me Split Pea Sterling to the gig. It killed. I used my 55-94 for the first set (jazz standards) and it was nice and polite like it should be. But when we kicked into the disco/funk, out came the Sterling. The Sterling had a new set of EB Hybrids on it and a nice low setup and she KILLED. I ran it through an SWR 550 and a Goliath Sr. It was great. I have found the perfect bass for this gig. It had that great solid EBMM low end yet very articulate from top to bottom without being harsh or dull. It cut through a 10 pc horn band without a hitch. The definition of punch. Now I can't wait to get my SR5 to a gig with this group.
