Well, you ALL did it to me!! Not only have you turned me to the darkside of Ernie Ball, I just ordered an Ampeg Classic head to replace my svt 1000. Going all tube. The Music Man bass makes up plenty with the active eq over the Ric.....no need for a huge s/s amp when I can get fat tone from 6 6550 tubes and a fridge bottom. Oh by the way, just ordered the Ampeg SVT-410HLF Enclosure to be my portable rig for recording and gigging. Thanks to Big Poppa>>>>and Jack>>>and Steve.....

you might want to wait a week until Ampeg unveils the new classic series SVT at NAMM, it's the '70s SVT with the blue ink on the face plate and the rocker switches for frequency shifts.

but the SVT CL is still an amazing head.

Chuck,

That B15R is definitley suffering from insecurity due to overwhelming bass steroids under one roof. I offer my patented Bass Safe Zone as the much needed remedy to keep it from falling prey to its insecurities. So act now, please send it along, care of me, and I will be sure to keep it safe from any and all emotional trauma via my patented Bass Safe Zone.

Hey, hows the EB sound through tnat Ashdown? I just got myself one of those, only UPS (#!Y!#^ers) drop kicked it all the way to Indiana from NY, and refused to honor the sellers insurance on it. So... it is in the shop getting put back together, cause I got too good of deal on it to send it back or let it go to waste.

Don't have an EB yet, but will eventually, got a Fender Am Jazz Dlx, Carvin XB76P, and soon to be arriving NS-CR5M, really can't wait to hear the stuff through that Ashdown. Not that my Trace GP7 head is bad... just too quiet, GREAT for studio though.

Yeah the B-15R might be a little nervous, but out of all these bass amps there is one here that is THE boss when it comes to tone, not volume or punch or bells and whistles, but just lays down the best bass sound is this…

EBMMopenhouse001.jpg

A very under powered by today’s standards, but my God what a full, warm, smooth sound. Built in 1966, restored in 2005 and has a permanent home here at Camp Psycho for as long as I live.

Somehow the SR4/B-18-N combo is a match made in heaven, I don’t know why, but it is the best bass sound I’ve ever heard… now if I could just play good enough to do this combo justice… well at least I have a blast at it…

The Ashdown is the most versatile and great sounding in it’s own right, plus more powerful than all my amps, but that old Ampeg is my fav. :D

Very Nice Chuck!

Not familiar with the old Ampeg models. I take it, it has a 18" woofer via the model number and picture? How many watts? What tube types, 6L6, EL34, 6550?

How do you like the B15R. Been looking for something a little more than my BA112 but not quite a full blown rig. Maybe the B100R? I think jackie-baby speaks highly of the B100R.

The B-18-N has a 18'' speaker and is around 80 watts, I'd have to look to see what tubes are used. All I know for sure is that most of the tubes are orgional. I bought all new tubes in a set for the restoration, but the orgional tubes tested at 95% or better! So my amp guy replaced only two tubes, had the speaker reconed by Jess Oliver, the designer of the fliptop Ampeg amps, and one cool dude... big time!

I've heard very good things about the B100R, just remember they are low powered amps, my B-15-R is only 100 watts, with a switch to lower it to 60 watts. It's all about tone, even the SVT CL is only 300 watts, but what a sound, hell, mic it!

When I need lots of stage volume I pull out the Ashdown every time, but when tone is the gig, it's hard to beat an Ampeg.
