I found this video on youtube.com, I am not sure if it's been posted here or not but it is a guy playing a BFR JP then REG JP back to back on the same amp with the same settings. I am not judging his playing skills or if one is version is better than another but this vid shows that they do sound rather different.

As one might expect, the maple cap adds a bright bite to the JP.

On his playing, that's the kind of playing that would drive me nuts to have to listen to it all the time - noodle shredding. Um, sorry, the room has already been rented.

Yeah, they sound different. The standard JP6 is a bit less clear, but to me has a more unique reach tone (mine has the old bridge pu though), where the BFR JP is more transparent (no matter how much gain You play it with each note in the chord is clearly audible), but is also bassier, boomier and it cuts through better.

The BFR to me is more like an LP on steroids, whereas the standard one is more of a super strat. I prefer the older standard JPs (especially considering the price/quality/tone factors), but You'll deffinitely find a lot people here dying for the tone of the BFR JP.

Just my 2 cents

Precisely! I made that super-LP comment in another thread...

It's how I describe the BFR to others, thick, focus and clear sound, not as muddy as a LP...
Friends do agree after playing it...

I definitely agree with the statement about the BFR JP sounding somewhat like an LP on steroids. I love my BFR and wouldn't give it up for anything in the world (well unless they make Dargie BFR's or Silverburst BFR's *hint, hint* BP).
