I found the resonant frequency of the springs in both my JP's... the low E. That's a problem. I can hear them humming through my amp which is rather annoying during palm mutes.

Wondered if anybody ran into this issue and how did you cure it? I thought about foam but didn't know what that would do to the overall stability of the trem system.

There has been at least one other thread about ringing trem springs in the JP. I've never had that problem, though. People talked about tissue paper instead of foam, I think. Try searching for the thread.

1) Try tying a shoe lace around the springs, sort of figure eight looping around the springs.

2) Try tightening one screw and loosening another so that you detune the resonant frequency of the springs but keep the total tension same.

3) Try a piece of foam (or two or three) anyway. Tell us for future reference what it does to tuning stability, if anything.

i stick toilet paper in the back of the cavity, in some guitars i thread it through the springs but generally i just shove some in the back and screw the plate back on.

I have used a small piece of foam and never had any problems. You just need to make sure the foam isn't real thick and getting smashed into the springs. It only needs to touch them slightly. You could even use cotton balls if you want.

Thank you guys. Tissue paper took care of the problem, no apparent tuning issues with the trem system. :D
