Ladies and Gentleman,
I have been waiting for someone to boast about the fat pumping sound of the single humbucker version of the Bongo. The pickup position makes this model sound different than the two pickup versions. Imagine the Stingray sound with more punch and deep end. Has anyone had the pleasure of taking one for a spin? :)

Oddjob has got that special, sexy Lime Green Single H Bongo that was on eBay just a while ago. ... That bugger.

Mommy! Mommy, the man from Customer Service is taunting me! Make him stop it! He's looking at me! He's saying I don't have a single pickup Bongo!

Dude, are you trying to KILL ME?

I gotta eat, you know.

c'mon bovine. you know you want one.

Hell--I want one, too!

I figure I need the simgle humbucker/piezo version before I'm done with my Bongo acquisitions, right?

Besides, I need an excuse to buy a desert gold Bongo at some point...

I will say that the Single H is a different beast than the HS or HH. If you'll notice that the single H sits higher on the body and is actually in a different "sonic sweetspot" than the bridge H on the other 2 models. Is it a huge difference... no. Do you notice it... well, the unuducated public won't, but a tone freak would. Another thing... the 3 band on the Bongo kicks (not as good as the 4 band but definately rocks - the 18 volt system helps some here I think).

The single H is calling you Bovine... listen... "Buy me... buy me!!!" :D

How would you compare the sound of a SR with a Bongo Single H? The pups are relatively in the same "sonic sweet spot".

Don't quote me on this, but I think the Bongo single H sits a bit (And I mean just a bit) higher than the Stingray H. By comparision the Single H sits about an inch high than the HH/HS bridge.

Too bad, I quoted you. So would this mean the Bongo H has a bit more bass with a little less treble than the SR?

I think it does... but it could be the 18 volt system, it could be my amp set up, it could be that I am just hearing things. I had a late 80's SR (which I broke the neck on - long story). Anyway, I loved the mids, I loved the highs but never could get the "umph" out of the bottom end. No problem with the Bongo at all. Before I even bid on the Bongo I tried 2 SRs at GC - a nice gold one with washed copper pg and maple neck and an blue one with a rosewood neck. Both sounded awesome, both were closer to what I was looking for... but both fell short of the Bongo. Like everything else it is subjective. I liked the looks of the SRs better, but the sound... I love the sound. But again, it is a biased opinion. I never have A/B'ed them next to each other (I usually get sidetracked by the newest amp that has come in or I look at price tags and runaway in terror). So everything that I say about the tone is from biased memory. Just keep that in mind

Keep in mind that if you pan to the bridge p/up on an HH it will not be the same sound as a single H....The p/up is in a different position....the sweet spot if you will..and you guys that say you can't slap on an HH or HS, you sure could on a single H...Just something to think about

The Bongo bridge pickup alone sounds different from a Stingray, that is for sure.

I'd love to try the single pickup Bongo, but I don't imagine it would be different enough to warrant me purchasing a FIFTH Bongo.

Man, I sure hope not, anyway, because I don't want to sell the child for medical experiments.

The Bongo sounds different, because it is....It was never meant to be another SR..Jack, the single H sounds sooooo much different, that I think you need several.

Bovine, you better hide the credit cards... it's bad enough when the darkside starts calling... but when Jon unleashes "the sales pitch of fury" it is all over. Give up, give in, it is all over for you... the 5th Bongo will be yours!
