Jack;

I like it every time you post that picture.

In fact, I think I'll quote you so it can get posted again.

What's the deal with ebony? Why are so many requesting ebony fretboards for fretted basses? I could see it makes a difference on a fretless, because the string directly touches the wood but on a fretted? Is it for the looks?
Some say because Ebony is denser than rosewood that it makes the bass sound brighter, I understand what you;re saying about fretless vs fretted, but for me it's purely cosmetic.

I own a Martin D-28V Acoustic 6 string with an Ebony fretboard and it looks beautiful. I get compliments on it all the time. The fretboard has small diamond shaped abalone inlays and it makes them stand out quite nicely on that dark black Ebony wood.

Better? Nah...more choices might be next, I'm betting when I finally pull the trigger, that's when they come out with the 3 tone classic burst version with a maple neck...yeah

I've always favored 5-string basses with wide necks and that was one of the reasons why I chose my (now gone) Carvin BB75 for replacing my (stolen) Washburn Axxess bass. While the Bongo's neck isn't that wide, I must say that it's the perfect "happy medium" to me. Not so wide, not so narrow. Perfect. As simple as that.
