I have an Axis Super Sport with 2 MM90 pickups that I just love. However up until I got this guitar I was a strat guy and still long for those 2 and 4 positions on the 5 way. When I need this sound I go back to my strat but I have been spoiled by the feel of the Axis and it just seems wrong to change guitars.

Has anyone added or have any comments on adding a 3rd single coil (middle pickup) to this type of guitar. I don't think I want to add another MM90, I was thinking of something along the lines of a traditional strat type of single coil.

Is this a mod that EB would do?

Any comments or suggestions are gladly accepted.

Well, I think a mod like that would kill your resale value and completely void your warranty, but if it's what you want, why not? Of course, if you thought you might like to do a little looking around, you could probably find an Axis Sport with three singles or an H/S/S configuration that would give you what you're looking for without routing into your Super Sport - they pop up on Ebay from time to time, and they're made of Swamp Ash, which is a great wood for those pop-y, sinuey in-between tones! ;) Of course, if you do decide to mod the MM90, we would require pics! :D

I've never seen a mod like this turn out anything better than badly.

You really don't want to do this.

I have the same kind of feeling on this one and I would hate to ruin the look of the guitar. I am also considering ordering a replacement neck for my strat from one on those parts places that claim to have the copy of the EBMM axis neck with the asymetrical(sp?) design. Does anyone have any experience with these types of parts people and whether the neck is truley like the Axis?

Grrrr.... curse those EBMM guitars people for creating such a nice guitar.

You should check out an Albert Lee - what a strat only dreams it could be.

It comes either with 3 MM90's or 3 Duncan singles and the five way that gets you the 2/4 sounds. The bridge single is also set with a base plate to give it a bit more tele type bite than the strat.

Plus you get the incomparable EBMM neck feel. I don't own an Axis, but in previous threads they describe the AL and the Axis as having the among most similar of the EBMM neck profiles, so it may fit you well.
