Sorry if this has been covered numerous times. I searched but found no related threads - point me in the right direction in case I missed it.

I'm VERY interested in a JP BFR. I just sold a PRS and a thiele and if I sell one of my current JPs i'll be right at the threshold! My question (and concern) is that the finished neck on the JP BFR is going to be much different than the unfinished necks on the standard JPs. Anyone have first hand experience with both that can help me decide if a BFR would be a good fit?

A Bahama Blue Burst JP BFR would be a dream come true for me! I can't think of any guitar topping it! It's just a matter of whether I could stand the finished neck or not...

I used to own a Les Paul (yuck) and sold it because my hands would stick to the neck when they started to sweat...

Anxiously awaiting the replies now... :)

I have found the neck on the BFR JP extremely comfortable, I was pleasantly surprised with it. I didn't really notice the finish on the back of the neck, and playability on the models that have come through here has been nothing short of spectacular.

If you are on the fence, DO IT!

PS I probably know where you can find one...

Perfect timing for this thread, my BFR just came in today! What I can say is that the necks are very smooth and very comfortable. I had the same worries you do being that I have played the reg. models for so long. I played all day/evening and never once had an issue of feeling "stuck". I don't know if it has something to do with EB's finishes but it does not play like any other finished neck I have ever tried.
I can honestly say that I think you would be as pleased as I am, you won't be disapointed. By far the most comfortable guitar I have ever played.

Feel free to ask any other questions, I know my descriptions are not very good but I can try.

I can almost guarantee you that i won't be a problem. The neck on my BFR is as comfortable as the ones on the old JPs.

Very cool guys! I'm even more serious about it now. The sad news is that I will have to trade in/sell one of my current JPs... :( . But, WHICH ONE?! Not an easy decision...

Honestly, I think the neck would not have been finished had JP himself not liked it. With the "old" JP, the neck was unfinished and JP played them for years. If he felt like he was going to get "stuck", he would not have had it done to the guitar. The model is based on JP's specs....so, who better to endorse the new neck than JP himself.

Very true Koogie! I'll look into trying to locate one now. :) You guys are no support group for GAS and JP addiction, that's for sure! ;)

I'd keep your Mystic Dream and sell the White one. Being that your BFR will have the D-Sonic, you'll still have the Mystic Dream which has the old pickup.

I was kind of thinking the opposite because I like the tone of the D-Sonic better than the older SS... I love the Mystic Dream finish though! I hate to get rid of either of them, but I don't think I can afford it otherwise...

you could always change the pickups and put the white's dsonic in the mistic dream, and the custom that's in the mystic dream in the white, and sell the white one ;)

Very true. But, I'm still trying to think of a way to not have to sell either!

Well if you are like a lot of other guitar players, look around. You must have other things that can go. That's how I scraped up the $ for mine.

I am a part time bass player in another band (that is on a long break) so I have a cheap bass and a decent combo amp that I could prob get about $350 out of both. I have my first guitar that I've been hanging onto that is not worth but $100 to most people. It's sentimental at this point mostly. I try not to keep too much 'extra' gear hanging around. The Mesa Roadster and 3/4 back cab are staying for sure. I'll see what other non-music related stuff I might be able to scrap to come up with some more...

I'll make it happen somehow by golly! :D

Hey Pete - I sent you an email... :)

Phil - I'm trying my best to NOT sell either one still. I only lack a few hundred dollars... The thread on the JP forum was just a feeler...
