Im usually not the type to mess with anything ernieball makes, but Im really wanting a finish option they don't offer. I recently built a parts P bass and was SURPRISED by the finish I was able to achieve. There is something so different about the bass without a hard acrylic finish over the paint. Im really digging it.
Nitro just gives a different feel.

Will probably do it in fiesta red or seafoam. I have considered resale value, I don't plan on having multiple basses in and out anymore, I found what I had all along. Single Humbucker Stingray.

Who knows, maybe I won't go through with it. Im a pretty lazy person and HATE removing the acrylic. I tried a chemical last time, which did nothing so I had to use a heat gun.. Well if I do this baby its going to use some chemical, sanding the heels are a pain in my arse.

It's going to be a while, and AFTER I get another bass (I've sold my 2 "back up" basses, and am now down to my SR4) which will be a SR 4HH, but my current bass, a SR4H, will be refinished (yes, I know a refin on a black and maple is almost considered blaspheme)

Once done, it will not have a a hard acrylic, or even nitro coating. Going with a color from Hot Rod Flatz and a custom graphic. Should be interesting to say the least :)

Why don't you replicate the body, so you don't mess up the original? :) The body shape of the Stingray is not patented I think (but not sure ;) )...

I am thinking of doing this in order to make a very greenish Stingray.

Stop worrying about the colour and just PLAY the damned thing, will ya ;)

BTW, I'd rather not trade the body of a good sounding 'Ray, or refinish it, simply because that piece of woods has the most impact on your sound. You may end up having a bass which you like from the looks you don't like to play half has much...

Ehh, I have never had a bass I didn't like, playability wise. I can setup any bass, truss rod, adjust saddles, worst case, a shim.

There is just something about a acrylic less finish. That I love. They always seem to weigh less, sound different and of course no body else will have that color!

Maybe im just on a finishing streak..

Painted my first bass, plan on bed lining my entire 4runner [did the interior floor and its sweet] and I have two other guitars from friends to do before I go at it on the ray. If I do.

honestly i dont think that would be difficult at all.

put yours in the classifieds looking for a trade.

if you dont mind a little profit sell it here or ebay [these are worth more] and get a used black maple. they usually go for 700-800

i'll think about putting it up for a trade. problem is i'm the kind of weirdo that sorta bonds with my MM's. especially my stingray since it was my first ray, i dont' count the Ray 34.
