Nice!

Congrats Mike that's an amazing addition to your already phenomenal collection. But, you should never have an odd number of balls, you really need one more to make it a cool 12.

All the best,
Slav

Slav,

Thanks for bringing the "odd number" superstition to my attention, I never knew that.........it seems I can't bring myself to get rid of one (you guys will have to tell me how to do that) getting another may be the answer.......hmmmmm........:p

Thanks again everyone for the congrats to my new addition.

Again, I don't really mean to kind of "show off" to everyone but more to share my joy.......

This guitar is killer (like the others) but has a personality and feel all it's own. A friend of mine that is more of a traditional rock/blues player (and didn't really know who John Petrucci was) said that the neck was one of the most comfortable profiles he had ever felt and he really couldn't put it down........

I haven't played it much as I am still in the honeymoon phase with my AL HH though and can't seem to put that one down.........Is it wrong to play one while thinking of the other??????

I will be posting pictures of mine here later. Got it in GC on Long Island. Got a question for Mike Y. After lowering the action on my JPX it still seems too high. If I put 9's and readjust the action will I be able to go really low? I am used to playing on .9's with really low action. I also have a BFR I was able to bring the action to where I like it. I was playing around with the JPX last night and still can't get it as low as I want. Lowering the bridge doesn't seem to help.

Thanks.

I will try and answer that one, but really the more seasoned guys should chime in an share their experience.

But as far as putting 9's in and it getting you lower action, my answer is a firm, rock solid, 100%......maybe(?)

Setting the guitar up can be tricky as you are kind of juggling a few things: neck relief, saddle height and spring tension. All of these contribute to how the strings will sit in relation to the neck. So these need to be adjusted together to get it where you prefer. Going to a lighter string gauge than what was there originally will likely need to have the spring tension adjusted. You can "maybe" adjust the truss rod to "flatten" the neck, but then their "may" be buzz at the lower frets if done too much that "may" be able to be adjusted out with saddle height.

I think the more experienced guys get a good feel for this and often know what to adjust and by how much......

As an aside, I picked up the 1995 Silo as a mule guitar to try different pickups and setups and when I first got it I set it up to have the action really low with the expectation that it would buzz or something like that. Well with much juggling I was able to get it low and not buzz.....but then I expected over time that it would shift........it's been a few months now and the action has stayed rock solid......even on a guitar that is 15 years old, these are the most stable necks I have ever had.........:D

When setting up the JPX, don't lower the bridge. Use the individual saddles. If you lower the bridge it could bottom out in the cavity and cause tuning stability issues.

I have my JPX set up with about 1mm between the strings and 12th fret...on the higher strings it is less...somewhere around .75mm

You will also want to make sure the neck relief is right. Fret at the first fret and 15th fret, then tap the string at the 7th fret. You should have a very small amount of movement in the string...about the thickness of a business card.
