Perhaps you did not read the article you linked. :) That article is about Pau Brasil, otherwise known as Brazilwood, which is indeed rather scarce. Pau Ferro, often called Morado or Ironwood, is actually from what I read quite available and doing okay.

well i looked for pau ferro on wiki and although it was a dfferent article, it showed the same scientific species name. I didn't know pau brazil was actually pernambuco, the wood that the best violin bows are made from, and that it came from down here south america. interesting. According to that article, bow makers are working towards a renewable source of pernambuco because they need it. I hope there's a future for that cause.

with that being said...I put rounds of my fretless... it was exactly what I was looking for sound wise...
