Because this one belongs to me!

Birthtime 3/16/07, 5:02PM. That's when this baby was delivered. :)

I got an extra pickguard, white pearloid. Plan to do a photoshoot soon but just wanted to get the birth announcement out. Perhaps I'll have to do a Stingray Andrea calendar shot now. :)

This has been an awesome UPS week for me.

That's because that information is not on wikipedia.com. Someone needs to put that up there.

And we know how wikipedia is...Someone should post something there giving Sensei Dudley credit for the flux capacitor

Now that is nice, Mister Joe, except I think that is possibly the lightest rosewood I've ever seen.

But let's be honest. If Andrea poses with it, I'll make 'ooh' and 'ahh' noises just like everyone else.

Congrats, Joe. Can't wait to hear how you compare it to the Bongo.

*Ernie Ball Music Man guitar designer Dudley Gimple created the very first flux capacitor. Each Music Man Bongo bass has one installed in the body in what is called the "flux tone block".

It won't let me post it right now because the database has been locked for maintenance.

You don't happen to drive a DeLorean do you? One equipped with a flux capacitor that requires 1.21 gigawatts to work?

I've missed something. This went about 30 feet over my head. Please explain. Both the Delorean and the flux capacitor comments.

Now for my first review:

I hoped to get it out to a gig tonight, but the gig's been cancelled due to this northeastern snowstorm that is a whole lot less what the news has got everyone convinced it is. I hate the news. Winter storm warnings, horrible weather, deadly stuff - it's freaking snowing over here. That's all. SNOW! It's pretty. It's not a big deal. Gigs cancelled though cuz everyone's scared. By the news. Enough of that - the bass. :)

Looks unbelievably awesome. The bleached rosewood neck was bleached really well, and it's real lite - same way I like my bagels. Feels stupid smooth and sweet, don't want to take my hands off it even to type this. Bass is punchy as hell, and I'm having a blast coaxing lots of different sounds out of it. In the 2nd position w/just one coil of the humbucker, the mids cranked, and the lows turned down a notch it gets what I think is a J sound. Not really sure what a J sound is though, but set as such it sounds super sweet and honky. The Stingray sound I always wanted is there in all it's glory. The neck pickup sounds somewhat like what I remember my P bass sounding like. All pickups on sounds as I expected, a beefed up Stingray sound. And my biggest and happiest surprise was the 4th switch position. The one that Ed Friedland (in the bassguitar mag) seemed to like least - the 2 single coils with the one from the H closest to the neck. I don't know quite how to describe it but I'm pretty sure it's gonna get a lot of play from me. Sounds kinda like a perfect mix of a P and MM, mellow yet punchy thumpy and sweet. Ed's a jazz dude, I'm R&rR so it stands to reason that we'd have different opinions here. There's a fairly dramatic difference in all the switch settings, yet the bass still holds on to the undeniable MM tone.

2 things surprised me. It's a little heavier than I thought (heavier than the Bongo and Sterling), and the string spacing is a lot wider than what I've gotten used to on the 5 string Bongo. It's taking a little adjusting but I'm certain it'll feel right at home after it's first gig tomorrow which better not be cancelled again cuz of snow.

Wanted to use the new bass w/my old amp tonight (I'm used to it) to get a good idea of what it does then break out the new GK tomorrow. Now the GKs gonna have to wait another week. Dang!

Life is good.

I can promise that bass will never see a tort pickguard. Gonna switch back n forth with the white pearloid whenever I change strings I think though - or batteries - or my mind.

Need to buy batteries for my camera.

Took it out saturday night. Haven't played a 4 string in a while, and I feel like I'm back at home. I like hitting and slapping the E string a lot in different ways and I had to stop doing that on the 5. I used the 2 single coil pickup selection for most of the night. Thick, sweet, and punchy. I love it. I plan to thorougly explore every sound on that bass.

Did something new with this thing too. When I started working on my sound with it the first time with my amp, instead of starting with the EQ all at 12:00 - I started with them at a quarter to. I never cut anything more than that so I figured I'd give myself a lot more freedom. It worked. If I set my amp to sound fairly cool with the EQ set like that, it's amazing where I can go from there. Everything goes to 15!
