This is not definitive but this is what I'm thinking at the moment. The Tele with slightly hotter wound bridge SC and the mini HB in the neck is a very versatile guitar. The neck HB needs separate EQ to sound good however. Using the same amp settings for bridge and neck leave the neck sounding bit muddy.

The sound of the ASS is not all that different from the tele, hence the tele on stereoids quip. The tele's neck HB is a little darker than a standard tele (closer to an MM90) and the bridge is a little hotter than a standard tele (closer to an MM90). The guitars could be EQ'd to be close (for my unwashed ears). Played clean, the bridge pickups were close enough that unplugging one guitar and plugging in the other gave enough time delay that they sounded close. However, each guitar recorded into a loop of the Boomerang III and played one after the other made the difference noticeable. In a mix and to the audience, not one person in a thousand would hear the difference. Anyway, this is what I was expecting. If the Tele had a piezo, I would still be playing it. However, the bridge mm90 in the ASS is just enough thicker while retaining cut and articulation to be exactly what I'm looking for and I prefer it to the Hotrod Tele. I also prefer MM90 drive and articulation to a full-up HB.

Regarding the ASS piezo, it has too much low end to sit in the mix properly without separate EQ. This means it will not be the best to use the on-board piezo preamp/mixer to send the signal out the mono jack. The piezo will need to have its own EQ before being mixed with the magnetics and sent to the board. It looks like the Dtar Solstice will have a role here.

I find myself just wanting to look at this guitar.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the purpose of the post. Are you just sharing your assessment and comparison of these guitars? Do you own one or both of these guitars? Are you looking for advice on which one to choose?

Whatever the case, you may want to check out a Valentine...
