So....just saw today that Dream Theater schedule a date in Rochester. Last time, JP did a meet and greet at the HOG. If he does this time, I was thinking about bringing my Majesty and seeing if he'd sign the back cover plate over the piezo electronics.

Any thoughts on whether this would hurt or enhance the value of the guitar?

I have... let's just say "several" signed guitars - none of which were signed because I think it hurts/enhances the value. It's just my way of paying homage to the artist and I like them signed on the front, just below the bridge where arm won't rub it.

So, loud and proud, buddy - not on a replaceable cover plate that means he may have never actually even touched the guitar - but no more of this talk that might lead to selling a guitar - blasphemy! :)

Let's put it this way: I'd neither pay more nor less for a Petrucci model signed by Petrucci. I'd pay significantly less for a Petrucci model signed by someone else though ;).

In my experience, artist signatures really don't effect the resale value, unless it's sharpied on the front of the body, in which case that turns some buyers away.
I've got a number of signed control covers. Much easier and safer to carry around a long night at a show than the actual guitar + case...
And bring you're own sharpie, just in case...

If you really want one, put it in the back top part of the neck. I don't buy guitars myself based on signatures, with or without, I don't care as long as the guitar sounds good.

No offence to the artists but realistically the only way youre going to increase the value of a guitar is to get it signed by a total mega star and even then you have to find the right buyer.
It wouldnt appeal to me having a signed guitar but each to their own.

Trust me. I have no intention of ever selling this guitar.

Had all three Alberts signed on the reverse of the headstock - one has worn !!

Had the trem plate signed by Albert and Steve Vai and had that lacquered to stop them rubbing off.

Personally I'm not a fan of having the guitar signed on the front but each to his own.

I have 4 JP guitars, none of which have been signed by JP or anyone else for that matter.

Is this a record? :)

I have an Ibanez JS1000 signed by Joe on the front, at first it really bothered me to have the signature in there, but it was like that when i bought it, and it was at a great price/condition so i learned to live with it, i'm a huge fan of Joe but i still wouldn't have asked him to sign my guitar, specially not in the front.

Rafael,

I'm a big fan of artist model guitars signed by the artist - but that's a pretty inconvenient spot for a guitar you'll be playing...

Oh well, since it's not a big deal to you... rock it! :)

It did bothered me a lot at first, but it plays so well that i just learned to live with it, plus most of the signature gets covered by my arm anyway.
