I just got back from Chicago, and it was certainly a productive visit. I spent two hours trying EBMM guitars, and I'm a little giddy about the experience, so bear with me if the following seems a bit breathless.
I got an opportunity to try a Morse and a Luke, and I was pleased by both.
The Morse was highly comfortable to play, but the neck felt a bit large for me. (Of course , this may be due to the fact that I've been playing an E$P with a wafer-thin neck, so I suppose I could adjust.
) The uncontoured body didn't bother me at all. The only problem I found with it was that there was no place for me to rest my picking hand comfortably. What really stunned me was how good the neck felt-it was like running my hand over glass. The frets were perfect as well (thanks Jon!) The build quality was also superb. Unfortunately, 45 minutes of testing time wasn't enough to explore all of the pickup options; other than that, the sound was superb as well. Overall, a grea guitar, but not my favorite of the two.
The Luke was just as impressive. The thing I loved the most about this guitar was also the neck-the V-profile felt great under the hand and provided constant support for my hand no matter what I played. I found the EMG pickups a bit more to my liking than the DiMarzios on the Morse (though both sounded great!)
It was a tough choice to make, but keep an eye out for a Carbon Blue Pearl Luke to join my stable soon.
