I've been mulling over tweaking my early model HHH STV. I feel like often the pickups sound a bit on the darker side. It occured to me before swapping pickups that it could be worth trying 500k pots in place of the 250ks that come stock. Curious it anyone's messed with something like that. I've seen some arguing on if it actually makes a massive difference or not.

I had also thought of swapping the middle pickup with a mini hum sized single coil, just for some extra funk. Seems like with the three pickup setup there's a lot of potential for something a bit different and interesting.

I haven't played at St V, but that could help brighten them up. To test it out, you don't necessarily need to swap in new pots- disconnecting the tone pot will have the same effect and you can see if you like it.

That said, you could also try a lower capacitance cable and see if that helps, too. Or try setting your amp to be brighter.

That's a good idea, disconnecting the tone. Though in doing a little research it sounds like the volume/tone wiring might be on a little PCB. Funny I've had the guitar for ages now but I've never had to open it up for any reason so I hadn't even considered it not being a standard wiring job. Think I'll pull it open and see this weekend.
It's definitely workable with amp eq and such. I think I just got a hair to do some tweaking on it.
