So what are everyone's opinions on JP's DiMarzio set?

I used to love them, but when comparing them with some DI's of other pickups, I actually now think they're kinda woofy and flabby on the bottom end! Spectrally, they seem to be a little lacking around the 2-4kHz region in comparison to some Bare Knuckle tests!

I'm using them in a JPX7, which acoustically sounds like the dog's danglies, so I know it's not my guitar ;)

Anyone got any experience throwing a different set of pups in the JPX? (I'm interested to hear about other JP's too, but primarily the JPX due to it's chambering!)

I really like the pick up set. The low B string maybe sounds a bit muddy, but it could just be my set-up. My practice set-up is a Line 6 spider II combo and a stock Boss DS-1 lol.

What about string gauge? If you get a lighter low B string maybe that would make a difference?

Had a read through that dkannen, sounds like you're of the same opinions as me! I'm definitely considering BKP, really like the sound of the Rebel Yell and their new BlackHawk. Only thing holding me back is that they can't do black screws, would have to be chrome, which given the aesthetic of the JPX, I really would like to avoid to keep the stealth look!

And BOOLsheet, A lighter B isn't an option for me, I use a 64 because I really hit the strings hard, and I love the piano-like tone of a chunky string :) A lighter string would quicken the attack of the note though, and bring up the really low harmonics of the note a touch. Could just pick every note right at the bridge ;)

Yucko!

I think it's the worst sounding pickup I've ever played in my life!

Lol.

I rather like the no.2 position in my 5-way switch. using the top coil of the Crunch Lab, and the bottom of the Liquifire. When I use the Crunch Lab by itself, I think its the most useless tone ever.

The Liquifire by itself isn't bad, but it's not terribly useful if you like a tone that is not already heavily overdriven.

I'm actually pretty pissed this guitar is only fitted for Dimarzio's, because I really don't care for anything in their line.

I love the way the guitar plays tho.;)

It's funny because I think the liqifire is absolutely phenomenal. Great pickup, but sounds very different in different guitars. I've got the one in my Petrucci, and one in my ibanez prestige. The warmth and quality of the Petrucci really becomes evident!!

Also, as far as the stealth thing goes, definitely shoot Tim at BKP an email. He might be able to do the black for you. It worth a shot!

Well, I have the Crunchlab in my RG1527, and it's every bit as tight as the BK Aftermaths, at least going through my rig.
So no, I've never experienced that particular problem :p
