So anyone here listen to Thrices' new album? Or any of their old stuff?

Its pretty crazy ... you used to be able to say that they were the lovechild of a threesome between Metallica, Iron Maiden and NOFX (and toss in some "good" yelling too). They have punk parts, metal parts, a lead guitarist that played lead, some harmonized guitars and some awesome breakdowns n stuff. But they've progressively changed w/ each album. The new stuff is way different but, i think, genious.

For those who have never heard these guys ... So here's my attempt to find the "best" (or most representative) song off each album. Download these songs, its 1 from each album, old to new (its a $4 iTunes experiment), then lemme know what you think. These guys are pretty damn good!

1) Ultra Blue (The Illusion of Safety)
2) To Awake And Avenge The Dead (The Illusion of Safety)
3) Cold Cash and Colder Hearts (The Illusion of Safety)
4) The Earth will Shake (Vheissu)

Only "Artist of the Ambulance" (is that right?) and that was a few years back. As I recall that was a pretty innovative mesh of different styles. I'll definitely look up your suggestions

I was looking forward to this album because the music being released these days is pretty bad. I was let down my the new album. I found the music lacking the energy I enjoyed in Thrice. It's more Coldpplay than metal.

At least the new Coheed & Cambria rocks pretty hard.

i can see where you're coming from. I first hated Artist in the Ambulance too. And to be completely honest I wasn't all too into the new album at first but im really diggin it now. I just put it on my iPod at work and every once in a while something would play and it would totally grab my attention.

Its hard to anticipate an artist's album expecting it to be like < insert old album name here> part 2 then hear something totally new (and different). The newest AFI CD was like that to me ... being from the SF Bay Area I was into AFI forever and the newest CD totally let me down ... and unlike the new Thrice Album, i never got into AFI's Sing the Sorrow.

I never got into Coheed ... or Thursday either. I saw Thrice Coheed and Thursday in SF a year or so ago and Coheed just pissed me off. LOL. Then Thrice came on and I was happy, then Thursday took the stage ... i gave then a shot "impress me before, i have 3 more beers or im leaving". LOL i just started drinking faster so i could get the hell out of there. to each their own ... all those bands rock and of course, not everyone is gonna dig every band.

No...You are wrong. Thrice and Coheed rock. Thursday does not. Thursday is the worst band EVER.

Yeah I agree also, don't really care for Coheed and the dudes voice has got to go. It just doesn't fit him. I think there's a woman trap inside.... :D :D
