Forgive my possible sillyness here, I don't know if this is just the ludicrous amounts of chocolate I've been eating, but I had a mad thought, has EBMM ever done a thru-neck bass? I've never seen one but I didn't know if it had been done or not before on some exclusive run. I thought that it could enhance the tone the bass makes maybe? I've played a thru-neck bass before and I didn't mind the sound of it, what would you guys think?

I thought it could maybe work best on the Bongo, but I imagine that the Big Al could be good thru-neck. The tone of any EBMM bass is fantastic but the thru-neck could add another array of tones available to the player. I presume it could be done as a limited run for EBMM maybe? Using different luxurious body woods etc?

Maybe I'm just being silly, but maybe it could lead to good things, who knows until they try?

I personally prefer the feel and sound of a bolt on.

I think making a neck-through would require some major production changes that would not be as simple as changing a finish colour or wood type (think major investment $$). Hard to justify on a limited run or trial period.

Hi Smallmouth_Bass,

So do I, just didn't know if it could be done, and what you said is right, would probs cost big bucks. Didn't think about that.

All the best!

Before the Armada guitar, I would have said, "Oh, that's too radical a departure--it'll never happen."

But, you never know what they are going to decide to do. I'm hoping for a hollowbody Bongo, personally. :D

Bassmonkeee, I agree! It might be difficult at first to implement, but would be good wether they did it as a standard run or maybe even part of the BFR stuff or via the PDNs like the Sledges? If enough people are interested then this could be good reading for BP! I know that I would snap one up if funds would allow, especially a thru-neck Bongo fretless w/piezo, if they announced a natural finish too that would be it. And yes, hollowbody or even chambred like the Reflex's?

All you could say is, if they do one, it'll be great, like everything else they produce.

But I personally associate EBMM with bolt on neck basses, and the best around.

Of course I would never say never, but I wouldn't hold my breath!

I have thought similarly about having chambered bodied basses for weight reduction, but in the lead-up to the release of the 25 Anniversary bass (now the Reflex), it was tried and they preferred the sound of a solid body bass. I think the Reflex guitar does have the chambers.

I can agree with what people are saying, anything EBMM produce is great, and if they ever made something Id definately give it a try. The weight reduction of the chambered bodies is certainly a help for people with bad backs, but for now Im alright I dont mind my 10lbs SBMM SUB, but maybe thats just my 16 year old back that hasnt given up the ghost just yet. Then again, I am yet to try a Reflex, after admiring Kekos bass, what a lovely looking bass! Judging by your version of Sade's "Smooth Operator" it sounds as good too!

Maybe the thru necks would be considered for any new model basses they may release over the years, maybe not.

Nay here, I like the solid feel and the Six bolt construction, to me it gives it an air of indestructible.

Me too, the solid feel of those 6 bolts is always appealing, but at the same time looking down and seeing that one piece of lumber is always impressive, especially if it was a bass of EBMMs quality so the shaping and finish of the instruments thru-neck would be impressive.

And Golem, good to speak to you about the forums, read a lot of your posts and you seem very well spec'd up, but I hope you don't mind me asking, where did you get that impression from? I'm not personally a big fan of 5 string basses at all. All I did was ask a question, I'm a young guy eager to learn and that's why I come on this forum rather than any else (no name and shames haha we already know) because your all very very knowledgeful about these beautiful instruments and I like to think by asking these sorts of questions and talking to the people around here I can build on my own ideas and broaden the aspects at which I view not just my stingray but bass in general. I've still got a lot to learn, but I still sit and read 20+ pages a day on here just to see what's going on down. I appreciate all of everyones comments, good to see what everyones opinions are on things like this, interesting

@ stingray guy

My post is not directed at you personally or individually,
thaz why it it has no quoted section from you nor from
anyone else for that matter. My post follows up on ALL
of the posts that precede it, as a group, and it reminds
us of previous threads in which some major design idea
was proposed/speculated/requested/inquired/etc etc.

One of the most recent was the 19mm fiasco. Search
on 19mm 5-string string spacing in the forum and you
will encounter some inneressing events, incl an offer
from BP to build it, at an initial negative profit, if only
forumites would at least pre-order and pre-pay for a
relatively small initial production run. Go read :)

I read once a long time ago, that according to Sterling there would inevitably be a bass version of the then unnamed armada. I also read at the same time, that what we now know as the armada, was too big to be kept under the Music Man brand name. That it was something bigger.

I would love to have a 34" scale bass version of the Armada, Pizza slice, carveout 2 tone finish, and whatever comes along with it. I will most defiantly buy one, play it as often as i can, and if i like it, tell the world just how much i like it. If i were a better 6 string player, i would be waiting for my Armada to be built.

So if anyone is reading this, If it ever exists to buy. I have my deposit ready. Trans white and Purple Please. 4 String. I'm in..

If BP makes a neck thru, where would he hide the mojo-laden finger nail clippings? Don't they go in the neck pocket? I need mojo, so neck thru doesn't trip my trigger.
