Hey All

My apologies if this is annoying, but I have to share this with some that might or should understand. I just played myself out. It's rainin like mad out there and I played myself to the thunder. I popped in my Peppers Greatest Hits album and danced, jumped and funked my way into musical bliss. I even ran out into the ran afterwards. There's so much good energy searin off me I just gotta proclaim. It's such a nice change from the usual musicaly drained self that work has left me in recently. Alright, now comes the point to this thread.(Also, I managed to lose the first copy of this too... which again was more elaborate and long, I've got to get used to this Forum thing)

1: Perhaps some of the crazier or sweatier bassist can help me out here. How do you guys deal with the secretions? I mean, I've got a rag and such and wipe everything down and clean regardless of the type of playing or intensity. But I'm always worried about my SUB. Also, a wet strap is an unhappy strap.

And

2: I'm sure I'm not the only one that Pops in a great Album every now and then and plays along as if they're in front of thousands of people and every move counts so they pour their very soul into the performance even though they're alone in their room and it's late and hot. If anybody can dig it, do share some cd's you like to play along to or. Thoughts and comments always welcome. Some of my more actiony favourites include.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - One Hot Minute (Awesome retro action funk)
RHCP - Californication(rock at it's finest)
RHCP - By the Way(More relaxed fun groovin)
RHCP - Greatest hits(the whole package)
The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Commatorium(always gets my energies flowin)
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R(Super cool desert rock)
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf(Super amped desert rock)
No Doubt - The Singles(super ska)
Tool - Ænima(subtle but intense)
Tool - Lateralus(not just an album, an experience)
Our Lady Peace - Clumsy(bring on the slides)
Mudvayne - L.D. 50(for when I had my fiver, beautiful chaos)
Rage Against The Machine - Anything borrowed, need to get an album(..it's rage)

There's a lot more but that's my "Let's work it up" list I guess. Alright, hope this hasn't pissed anybody off. Be cool.

Wow. You like RHCP too! And your name is Sam. And you like MM basses. As I said before, we're practically brothers or something. And no, you won't get no money from me, stupid git. :p I need it for my own Bongo!

Anyway, I frequently jam along to old RHCP tunes. Namely the ones with super fast slap bass lines such as "Blackeyed Blonde", "Get Up and Jump", and "Stone Cold Bush." Those are awesome. I've also been jamming to old school R&B and hip hop as of late, such as Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke", Jimi Hendrix' "Purple Haze", and Suger Hill Gang's "Rappers' Delight." And then there're the Primus songs I love playing alongside, like "Tommy the Cat" and "Jerry the Racecar Driver."

Rawk on,
Sam

Yeah, I'd love to get my hands on some primus or the early RHCP, but I can only buy one thing at a time. I've spent most of the last year focusing on melody and general playing technique; the way I hold the neck, my fingering. Also making sure I could actually play. Though recently I've taken some leaps in bounds with my slapping now that I'm paying attention to it again.

Ironically I never listened to the peppers. They were always a band I enjoyed when I heard very much so, but never got into them. So I got to hear all of my friend's Californication at a party one night and since then I'm constantly blown away.

The old timers are gonna barge in this thread sooner or later with talk about "only slapping possums" and flatwounds and Beatles and... I'm just pullin' yer leg, Bov. :p
