I cannot get my Floyd Trem Arm to swing free. It will swing "sort of" free part of the way but gets stuck at the bottom. Is the little hex screw "see pic" at the base of the arm supposed to loosen it? I tried but this doesn't seem to really do anything? Also what are the 2 black pieces in the front near the allen screw?

If you take off the trem spring plate on the back of the guitar, you should see a slightly larger hex/allen screw that goes directly into the bottom of the whammy bar. You should see it spin when you spin the bar. You should be able to loosen this a bit.

I believe the bar's "looseness" is controlled by both this screw, and the one you pointed out. I believe the one you pointed out mainly controls the hopw much wiggle you have in the bar.

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem with my Axis when it was brand new. I removed the backplate, loosened the trem bar allen screw, and removed the trem bar completely and lightly applied some WD-40. When I reinstalled the trem bar I didn't tighten the allen screw all the way and left it slighly loose.

After that I was able to get the trem arm to swing freely.

*one thing to note is that if you take the trem bar out all the way, there are 2 very small washers in there that you want to make sure you keep an eye on because they are easy to loose.
