A bass playing friend showed me his fairly new EB MM5 the other day and asked me if I'd put new strings on it for him (he's got the early stages of Multiple Sclerosis and has a hard time with strength and fine motor movements). I fiddled with it a bit, noticed right away that the truss was too tight, and told him I'd take care of it for him, thinking a quick setup would help him out too. So I brought it home a couple days ago and put the strings on.

I tuned it up and looked down the neck. Sure enough, the truss was still too tight giving the neck too much of a back bow. After letting it sit for a day, I tried to loosen it and couldn't. I put quite a bit of pressure on the neck to try to take the pressure off but still couldn't budge the thing. I was hoping one of you MM owners would give me a hint how I might deal with this problem.

Wow, I've never had this happen before. If the adjuster-wheel is turned fully clockwise(tightened) and won't turn counter-clockwise I'd contact a tech in product support at EB. Your friend's bass may still be under warranty. In such a case EB will send you to your local EB dealer to have it fixed at no charge. If not, I'm sure they'll give you intructions to take to a guitar tech. Unless you have a lot of experience with trussrods I would'nt try to fix it myself. Good Luck, D.M.
