I'd like a little more friction in the tuners on my 2002 SR4. AFAIK, the phillips screw in the center of the tuner gear just holds the tuner together; they're already nice and tight.

Is there any trick to increasing the friction on the tuners so they're a little more difficult to turn?

I was thinking that perhaps a rubber O-ring or fiber washer in the tuner assembly would do the trick, but maybe there are better ideas---before I dismantle one of the tuners.

Your on the right track with adding a washer to the back of the gear cog,
Something about the same thickness as a credit card (or thinner depending on how many miles are on your tuners) should do the trick.
