Hi I'm looking for new amp to replace my Epiphone valve jr. My guitar is Musicman Luke and I want an amp to play classic rock and '80 metal mainly. I will use it as an practice amp but want a bigger sound than the Epi Valve jr.

My budget will be around $1,000.
I will use the amp with a set of effect (DE7 delay, Small Clone,MXR phase90, RMC3 wah, MI tube zone, Skreddy mayo, Silver kiss etc.)

Between
Orange Tiny Terror with 2x12 cabs
Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 with 2 of 1x10 cabs
Krank revolution jr.
Which one will suit me best?
I can't test the amp myself, because there's no mesa or orange dealer in my country.

or should I buy Half stack? (I'm afraid 100w will be too loud for bedroom level.)
Thanks.

I was going to get the Tiny Terror. Ended up with a Mesa F-30 combo. But I love my F-30.

I heard someone choose F50 over express 5:50, he said the F-50 is better than the new express series. But I can't buy the F-50 or F-30. Because it's a discontinued model. I have to place special order for 220v. version of the amp. So it must be a new amp, order directly with Mesa.

Thank you both of you for suggestion.
If someone think I should buy other amp, your idea are welcome.

Th epi is a fantastic unit for the bucks and as Ad says above - try it through another speaker.

The tiny terror is awesome - but for bedroom levels would be too loud even at 18 watts.

If you want a true bedroom amp, get yourself a Smokey Amp made by Zinky
go here Smokey Amp Zinky Electronics
Make sure you listen to the demo on that page too!

Ever plug a Smokey into a quad cab? Thing rocks! I used to carry one in my case as an emergency (mic-ed) backup amp. No kidding!

The Epi sounds good through a good cab, and it takes pedals pretty well to boot. For a primary amp, though, I just can't get into the whole EL84 kind of sound.

Ha ! Details and more details !
Whats 3 watts between friends ;)

I think for a bed room amp they are too loud.

My son has a vox 30 watt valvetronix , but with those you can effectively turn a control on the back of the amp to get it down to 1 watt.

I was knocked out by the demo of that Smokey amp - for a bedroom it would be ideal.

and he's saving himself circa $970 !!!

EDIT

ahhhhh ORANGE - I bought my Les Paul from them in 73!

Just for grins, try plugging your Epi into a larger cabinet. You might be surprised at how much of a difference speakers make.
That Epi is a cool little amp IMHO. A real sleeper for the money.
I agree. That's why I'm gonna buy Head+cab unit this time, not combo.

No, that's not what I want. I want a bigger sound, more bass, more impact. Something that I can play it loud while no one's around. Epi valve jr is very good with low volume, but not enogh when I want to play loud. (loud for bedroom level, won't join any band, so 50W is overkill.)

Yeh, I couldn't recommend a Smokey or the Epi as a primary amp.

For $1000, there's tons of good amps you could buy. But it seems you're looking for the best of both worlds: something that will sound big and ballsy at lower volumes. For that I'd suggest either an EL34 or 6L6 40-50 watter, with 2-channels, master volume and reverb. Again, tons of those types of amps in your price range. It's all preference from there.

Edit: 50 watts isn't overkill, if the amp delivers the goods at reasonably lower volumes. Some do and some don't.

A head with a good master volume, power scaling or attenuator will be fine for bedroom levels. My Guytron 100w head sounds almost the same at a volume I can talk over!

But seriously there are a million good options. You might want to go to a forum that's amp specific like the Gear Page and read reviews. Though that usually has the opposite effect on me and I just want to own everything :)

Another option is a lower powered combo. I've got a Budda SuperDrive 18W combo that sounds great at lower volumes- killer drive channel and the clean is pretty good too. Will get you those 80s rock tones no problem. And it's portable so you have no problems dragging it out to a rehearsal, etc.

I can't order 220v. version of F-30 or F-50. It's a discontinue model. All mesa in US is 110v. version , I suppose.

I guess GC's trying to dump all the F series right now. I should get much discount if only I can use it with 220v. electricity.

How's about Marshall JVM410H
100 watt head.
I heard it's good at bedroom level.

tough choice - but I have to say, none of the above.

get yourself into a Dr Z - try a Carmen Ghia or a Maz Junior with some pedals for flavor and color
just my .02

happy shopping:D
