Ha nice one!!

I remember getting my son (now 23!!) to sleep by playing Living Color songs to him - he loved the heavy bass !!!

- and now he's into DnB.

You don't need to be a dad to do that. I use to do it to my wife! LOL!

Spud ! I never had you down as a fan of Vernon and the boys...

Please tell me that it was that lovely bass solo into the soring guitar solo in "Broken Hearts" that used to work the magic:)

My 3-year-old is my biggest fan ... OK, my only fan. :D I've been playing for him since he was a baby, but it's never put him to sleep. Has the opposite effect. He starts jumping up and down and laughing ... not really sure what to make of the laughing. :p We got him one of those Dean Playmate half-sized guitars for Christmas (something he might actually be able to learn something on if he takes an interest in the next couple of years, but something that we wouldn't be heartbroken if he pulled a Pete Townshend on). Now, he wants to play along with Daddy ... most of the time what he does more resembles drums than guitar, but it's a start.

Over the last year or so, I've learned to play the Sesame Street theme, Elmo's World, Bob the Builder and I'm working on Thomas the Tank Engine right now. But since he's a train fanatic (we have to go to the back door and watch the one that runs behind our house no matter what time it comes through), I introduced him to Blackfoot's "Train, Train." Now, any time I hit the first notes of the song on any guitar, no matter where he is in the house, he comes running to sing along. He's not really sure of the words, so it's more like "Train, Train, take (mumble, mumble) out (mumble, mumble)is town." It's actually pretty funny in person.

As far as getting him to sleep when he was a baby, the only sure fire way we had was to put the Black Label Society acoustic record on the CD player low in his room. He still gets droopy-eyed these days when he hears a song from it. Of course, over that first year where he barely slept two hours at a time, my wife and I got completely sick of it.

Yup, I'm doing that as well. The very first time that B laughed, was when I was standing in front of her playing 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.

Whether this relates to her liking of the music, or her humour at my inability to play remains to be confirmed....

She also really enjoys it when I play the classical to her. She stares intensely at the fingering used for the chords etc and seems to really enjoy blues as well. Good signs!

It was 2 particular songs:-

My oldest son would always fall asleep when we would play the first Norah Jones cd, now he wants ro "rock out" all the time.

If I play anything at all on the guitar, my 2yr old son will break into the lyrics of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star while my oldest will tell me it needs to be faster and meaner sounding

Great comments.

My first son practically grew up at rehearsals and jams, even as an infant. He'd dance around and sing.. well, baby sing. Interestingly, he never took up music. My second son did though, and he had only moderate exposure. Cain't never tell til they's all growed up. Now it's just me and my dog, Mojo. He loves it when I play.
