I recently added a tone control to my Luke I, and to my surprise it sounds no good. It sounds nothing like a normal tone control, it sounds as a highcut, and that isn't the exactly the way a tone control should sound/work.

It should work more as a freq. shift, moving the notch from a high to a lower freq. Somewhat like a wah wah in the middle position. Mine just sounds like it removing everything exept bass.

So I am asking you guys who own Luke IIs, which one the description I gave fits your Luke guitar best? Have you also noticed that your tone control doesn't sounds as on a passive guitar?

Regards
Niklas

hi

I haven't a Luke II :( but I have the EMG SL20 kit on my strat which in my IMHO should be the same. The tone control is working perfectly and gibe the sound you expect from a tone control.

Are you sure you have used EMG component to manage this update ? remember this is an active electronic and as far as I know it is recommended to use 25k control instead of the regular 250k or 500k control

check the EMG website as far as I remember there is a full spec of the SL20 kit

I have a Luke 1 and Luke 2, although l have not added a tone control to my Luke 1, (personally l think it's sounds great with out it). But at one stage l disconnected the tone control from my Luke 2, although l've reconnected, it didn't drastically change the sound, maybe your using the wrong pot or something, which l think would be the case, what type of pot did you use?

Scott.

As the others have said---you are dealing with an active cicuit and which pot u use will greatly effect the sound. Just like there are different volume pedals for passive and active----the pots used for tone are also different. I would consult the EMG web site for their recommendation.

I have both, and they're both very different to my ears. Don't know why.

I used a EMG 25k concetric pot and I wired it as if were 2 indipendent pots according to a schematic by EMG.

I tried a ESP with EMGs today and its' tone control sounded good. Strange... Btw I did notice a drop in output when I installed the tone control. I also get what sounds like a volume drop when I turn down the tone, but only on the single coils, and not very much.

Well it must be the magic EBMM touch :D

I guess also because the EMGs are screwed on the Luke while on the SL20 the are not and you can adjust the height hence the difference. Also the Luke body is smaller than the strat. Had no chance to compare both side by side yet. The Luke II might be my next purchase but in that case the strat will go then no comparaison possible.

Can you explain more about the sound difference ?
