Tommy, that's pretty cool, but those tuners are huge man.

Ok guys here it is:

It´s a german product as you hear in the guy´s english. Had the company in my store for a demonstration.
For the mass at the headstock, yeah a little bit but not too much.
But it retails for €700.-

And I asked the guy for what target group they make it because for beginners - way too much money.
A studio musician (like he aswered) Put it on 10+ guitars, ridiculous.

So it´s nice but as we all know you have to tune upwards from flat to the right note to keep the tuners stable and not from sharp to 0 cent. But this thing does it both ways as you can see.

I don´t see this product on a production guitar except on a futuristic small brand like Steinberger used to be in the 80ies.

Well, I tried a Strat fitted with the system at a local shop and... blimey, it actually works!!! However, with a Danish price tag of 1100$, I am quite capable of tuning my own guitars...

Had I been a pro musician, however, the proposition mightn't sound as unreasonable: you'd always be in tune and would be able to go to any alternate tuning in just a few seconds.

Anyway: I think it's a brilliant product (albeit slightly aesthetically unpleasing), but it's just a bit too expensive to me as a hobby musician for what it does.

Cheers

That is a brilliant system. However, unless they can recoup their R&D very quickly and get the price down, I doubt they'll sell a lot of them. After all, tuning isn't really that big an inconvenience, is it?

It would be cool when recording though.. because I check my tuning before each take to ensure everything sounds consistent.

Plus, you have to admire somone trying something new.

Edit: it would be really cool if it tweaked the trussrod, too!

it seems to be a great idea and we need innovators to push the industry forward.

I like it - would I buy it? - Maybe if I was a pro musician.

Something similar has bee used by the master of slide Sonny Landreth, who had a Les Paul fitted with a servo controlled computerised tuning system enabling him to select a different open tuning at the touch of a button.

There are bootlegs about where Sonny can be heard using the system.

Yeah Spud- totally reminds me of that Transperformance tuning system - I remember Jimmy Page had one too and could press a button and have the guitar switch to preset alternate tunings.

This would be cool for that- replace the the push/pull pot with a pannel on the back of the headstock etc that lets you program a different tuning. Then press and retune quickly between songs.

This system looks slow, though. Whereas that other one was pretty quick- I remember seeing a demo where different tunings were selected during a song- the changeover was really cool.

Yeah spot on Beej I forgot about the likes of Page - he was the first to use the system per the info on the website.
I seem to remember hearing an interview (I bleeb from a German radio show) with Sonny, and he was singing it's praises and he demo'd the system "on air".
I think I'll just stick to my open A and open E !! :D

Wasn't the Page one something like a motorised Hipshot?

I quite like the idea of having one for open tuning, but I don't want to put one on my Sports. Maybe I need a beaten up one so I can try it?

I wouldn't be surprised if they recoup their R&D money in other places - some if the innovations they came up with will be licensed elsewhere for other industries and technologies. Really, I can't see it selling much. At that price tag it takes the beginner/hobbyist out of the market but professionals should be able to tune properly themselves and have gear of high enough quality that it's not a major issue. Personally, I think compensated nuts are a bigger step forward.

Well, I'm an engineer so I think it's kinda cool, but why would I spend hundreds of dollars when I have a Korg tuner that cost around $40, and I have eyes to read the tuner, and I have hands to turn the tuners myself?

I'll stick to my current method.

It seems a good idea for somebody like Sonny Landreth who plays in a lot of different tunings, it saves him having to cart around loads of guitars on tour something that he admitted to in a radio interview but I agree that it it is a "tool" for the privileged few.

What if they invent a guitar that plays itself?!?

Oh wait..........thatd be my JP6 :p

If it catches on itll come down in price. Personally, I prefer the look of the technology in the new guitar by some other American company. Cant remember who it was......
