I ordered a pair of 10" Tone Tubbys for my amp about 3 weeks ago. They came in on Thursday and I have been playing them the last couple of days. I mixed them up and put one ceramic and one Alnico. These things are awesome and worth every penny. IMHO. If you are looking at new speakers these are worth a look.

Sport,

Word is, these TT's take some good amount of breaking in before they start to shine. The best is probably still ahead for you with these speakers.

Care to comment on the difference in tone between the alnico and ceramic versions? My observation is that alnico compresses more and seems to have a wider frequency response. Problem I’ve experienced with the Eminence Red Fang alnico was, it all but disappeared in a band setting, especially the mids. But, oh my, were the harmonics sweet!

Candid,
The folks over at TT say about 40 hours is optimum for break in. I have put about 6 hours on them and they are sweet right out of the box. The Alnico is warmer and smoother where the Ceramic has more headroom and is a bit brighter, thinner. Generally speaking, the Alnico = Blues, Rock etc. and the Ceramic = Metal, Country etc. I like mixing speakers, the first amp that I had that did this was a DR. Z Maz 38. Ever since this amp, I have used this 2 speaker concept on my combo's or cabinets. You get the best of both worlds.

Yeah, longer to break in than most speakers, but from what I hear, worth the waiting.

Definitely more headroom on the ceramics, just as with the Eminence speakers. I had three alnico Red Fangs at one time, but sold them due to high compression and low headroom.

I'm also a fan of two different speakers, and I prefer each in their own 1x12 cab. My favorite combo thus far is one Em. Wizard and one Em. Legend GB128. Maybe I'll give the TT's a whirl one of these days.

Thanks,
Bruce
