Tony Burnett???

Just got Guitar World and saw a two page advertisement on this guy and his "amazing" guitar-teaching method.

Anyone ever hear of this guy? Is this another Doug Marks or estaban (aka Estafraud)?

A few years ago my drum instructor told me about a session he worked on in LA where this top studio cat came in w/ his entourage and played a solo after one take and then left---he was paid the big bucks for that short time as well. I wonder if this is the guy.

I saw this guy's ads, too. I've never heard of him, but that doesn't mean anything.

He sounds just like me.. I've recorded many solos in one take.

Except mine are on recordings that you'll probably never hear..
.. and I didn't get any big bucks..
.. oh, and I didn't have any entourage either.

I actually bought the Doug Marks stuff about a year ago (I've been playing for 20+ years and was bored).. I dont' see anything fraudulent about it. He covers all the essentials, and I think it was a good value for the $$. You have to put in the time and practice no matter what product you buy. That's why I'm not a better player after all these years.. I don't really practice very often.

If you don't have the discipline to sit down and approach it as a 'study', then you probably won't reap any amazing results no what the sales pitch.

Edit: I see Burnett wants like $97... hey, that's about the price of what.. 3 half-hour lessons? If there's enough material on there to keep you busy for 90 minutes, it's probably worth a shot.

I did a more thorough search on the web and the consensus was that the guy can play and teach but there is nothing new in the dvds that you can't get elsewhere. The marketing is sensationalized to increase profits----there is no secrets unless you call theory and scales "secrets."

I also found out this guy is in a Dream Theatre tribute band.

By the way, I think Matt Smith's book (Chop Shop or Guitar Shop---can't remember) is an awesome tool.
