Hi guys, last friday I took a day off with my wife and made the 200 km trip to Turin for the gig.
I managed to took good central seats (not reserved), circa 30 meters from the front stage. I just wanted to thank Mr.Lucious for the great concert, he's in great wonderful shape for sure! The band rocked, with crisp executions, brilliant solo moment and great overall punch. Pity Mr. Paich won't be performing live anymore, his live playing was wonderful and he's missed, despite Greg Phillinganes brilliant keyboard work. Lee Sklar is a bass animal for sure, great chops and touch.
The guys put back some oldies in the setlist, most notably Isolation, Pamela. The new intro for Rosanna made me laugh in joy, so brilliant and jazz-inspired. Then, on second verse.... BOOM!, the song was back in its usual form.
The acoustic set was also very entertaining, with Cruel, Can't stop loving you among others. What really surprised me was Tony Spinner; this guy is the definitive group musician, great playing and also some really impressive backing vocals!!! The b/vs were executed greatly from the guys. Really nice harmonizations, not a single wrong note.
Unfortunately just after the acoustic break the overall sound deteriorated. Maybe the soundboard guys had too many Nastros or Heineken or whatever....
As usually happens in italian venues the sound was filled with low-freq notes(both Lee's bass and Simon's kicks). This absolutely didn't ruin the magic of friday's night.
Hope to see the guys again somewhere next year for the 30th anniversary.
Oh.... and on "raise it to the roof" mr Luke showed me what my BB Luke BFR will look like.... Can't wait.
Thanks Lucious for another great evening of music, and sorry if the crowd was a little cold in some fragments!
Marco
